So I want to install a nice iPod stereo and 2 6x9s 2 5 1/4s a sub and an amp. Problem is I have a 60 baja that is running a stock six volt system ( I think) how can I do this? I have heard of a converter box but they run about a 100 bux!!! It has a old am/fm radio that is not stock which works right now. Anyone have ideas?

Definately need to convert to 12 volt and then convert to an alternator. A generator alone still isn't strong for the kind of power you want to run a system like that

is there a way that I can hook it all up with its own battery and wiring to the generator? If not, is it hard to install an alternator and does anyone have a link to one

Remember that you'll still need to convert to 12v before the alt.

You'll probably have to add some shims to get the alt to fit just right and not throw a belt

I bought an altenator kit from the same place but the one I got had all hardware including stand and belt. I don't remember it costing much more.

Any ways to answer your question. I'm not aware of the converter you mentioned. Nor do I know of a way you can hook up a 12 vdc battery in the existing system w/o major problems. Yes, you can run a separate 12v battery just for the radio but who wants to do that? That's a lot of extra weight plus you would have to hook it up to a charger all the time.

I'd say invest in converting to 12v system as well. Plus get rid of the generator and go to an altenator.

Headlights, all the bulbs in your lights, speedo lights, flasher, coil, condenser, and of course the pieces to adapt either a 12v gen or a alternator. Alternator requires a new back plate and fan, stand and strap. The 6v starter will work for awhile, maybe indefinitely if you don't crank on it alot. Save all the 6v stuff for a restorer.
