What's that big long cover that goes behind your dash called, and where might I find one for my '59? I'd like to try and keep some of the dust out of my instruments, wiring, and electronics in the dash...

Thanks- couldn't find one on Chirco, btw.

They're really crap. You oughtta just make one out of sheet metal. It'll last forever.

Daryll put one in a car he is building, the Ernest one and didn't like it. He ended w/a fiberglass one and it fit better. I haven't decided if I should make one out of aluminum or just get the glass one.

I'm thinking I may just end up making one somehow. I'd like to find one I could borrow, just to trace out a template on cardboard for the basic shape (take 5 minutes). I'd like to try and seal it up as good as possible around the edges, to keep dust out, etc.

I guess I'll shelve this for now, as I'm already buried up to my eyeballs in this car project-wise... Laughing

WOW! I would've thought the ABS plastic would be the way to go in leu of the old stock cardboard style.

Using a metal cover up there would give me the heebie-jeebies with all the electrical connections and such.

I've got two brand new ones in my garage that have never been used. You can have them both if you swing by. One of them is already cracking. Thus...

CRAP.

Make a cardboard template from YOUR CAR that fits well Then put in on a piece of sheet metal. Spray paint around the template, then cut out the paint. I coated mine with Pep Poys aerosol bedliner stuff, and it works great. It'll outlive you, me, and both of the crappy plastic ones in the garage.
