Citizen's Band radio for my baja. It's a front-speaker Uniden, and I plan on mounting it in the radio hole in the dash.

GPS still to come to round out my communications/navigation package. Laughing

I ain't puttin' no stinkin' stereo in my baja. If I ever do, I don't plan on running a tuner- just an amp/speakers with an IPOD hookup. Nice and low-key so the scumbags won't even see it (and take it).

Being an amateur (Ham) radio operator myself, we refer to CB as "childrens band" just in fun. Laughing Laughing
Any communications is a great idea, but only if there's some one listening out there.
CB has kinda died off around Va except for the truckers out on the freeways.
I'll have the cell, FRS and prolly my Ham radio with me when I go off roading.

You do bring up a good point about the scumbags.

What kindof, if any, alarm systems do you guys use?

I have been thinking about putt'n one in my Baja since we seem to have a problem here lately with those F'ing scumbags.

I have a CB in my toyhauler trailer. I'm thinkin' that some of the guys I might off-road with might have one as well. Could come in handy on group rides...

I have a CB and FRS, but the FRS seems to be the best choice as you can have it out side the car etc. almost like a mini cell phone.

I love my CB. It really comes in handy on the trails. I thing it should be mandatory to have one in a baja. I couldn't care less about the truckers or whatever, they just make trail riding so much more fun (and practical) with a group.

I love my stereo, too. I have that iPod adapter that lets you control the iPod directly through the stereo keypad. The iPod remains out of site, and it works AWESOME!

Power inverter. Radio shack used to carry 'em. Really though, it's alot better to convert to 12volt. Then again, if you're running a baja exhaust, tri mill or whatever, you aren't gonna hear much anyway.

so first off, where do you hook a power inverter up to? And will it eventually drain my battery because I don't have an alternator?

Will an inverter work for this? I thought they converted DC to AC, while changing the voltage from 12 to 110... You're just trying to step voltage up from 6 to 12, not change the type of current. I ain't no elektrishun tho.

I think converting to 12V is the way you're gonna need to go. I feel your pain- I had a '65 6-volt car that I wanted to leave intact at one point too.

what do you mean convert 12 to 110? and if i did get an inverter, would that mean i would have to convert my headlights, fuses, etc? another way that was brought to my attention was to run the whole system off of a seperate car battery that would have to be turned on and off each use... it seems to me like it would run out of juice fast, but how long might a battery running a system last?

12VDC (car electrical system- yours happens to be 6VDC right now) to 110VAC (like your house runs on). An inverter typically converts DIRECT current (DC) to ALTERNATING current (AC).

Converting the car is really the most feasible option. The extra battery idea would suck, especially with nothing to charge the battery. If you're running an amp of any consequence, then your battery definitely won't last long.
