Sounds fun. Get the offroad flavor up there! I'm going. $8.00 for people over 12.

I'll be leaving in the morning. Look for the red and white bus with the plate of 8NOHIPI.

Well, I can say that I like the offroad VW guys better than the hippies that were hanging out here this weekend. Loud, not a family event, even though they tried to market it as one. I guess if your kids smell like hemp, then it was a family event. Although the kids that my 8 year old son rode bikes with were nice kids...

Stand offish as well. Unless you were with their particular click they rode up with. I sound harsh, but my family was disappointed. We camped in the dirt at the KOA, near the entrance. Thats where they put us. Cheap enough, only $16 for my family for one night, but disappointing. People camping near us were laughing and talking until 3 am, even though there is a 10pm quiet time. Awoke my 2 year old, and Momma wasn't happy.

I walked up to some and started conversation, but only two seemed inviting. Needless to say, we won't go again. Too bad. We left early too. I told my wife I bought the bus to bring the family to VW events. Not if that was a representation of the bus crowd. My old baja I use to have had a friendlier following... I'll have to show up with the guys around here and see how things feel. Momma and the kids need to see that all VW guys are not self absorbed loud people...

I wondered how that event would turn out- sorry to hear you guys had a bummer of a time. It's hard to find decent people to hang with these days- people who go out of their way not to mess up the time others are having. We'll have to put something together for us more "conservative", family-types from this board maybe- keep it small and hopefully all involved will have a good time. My family and yours would probably be about the same speed it sounds like- when my wife and I met up with your wife to view the car a few months back, it was real nice chatting with her.

How was the baja turnout? Any at all, or was it mainly a bus event???

No bajas. Mostly buses and a few bugs. 2 squarebacks. We took some nice pictures though. Here is one of our camp.

at least you had a bus. I drove my new Ford. I also found them to be a bit clicky. I have met baja guys and Beetle guys who are the same way. But I hung in there and met several cool guys. I hung out with 4 or 5 groups of people saturday and saturday night. I did make it a point to meet some of them by following their caravan from Cottonwood.
And props go out to the KAO folks who gave plenty of effort to make it a great weekend. Reduced rates, games, maybe 50 raffle prizes including a new bike. I hope they do have the event again next year, I would definitely go. I will take my baja up there since it is less than 10 miles away from the cinders. I cruised thru there in my truck and met people there who were friendly. That was my first time at the cinders and now I can't wait to go camping again and take my baja there.
It's unfortunate that you didn't have a good time, maybe, as you posted and as your license plate and screen name describe, it wasn't your type of crowd.

Perhaps my expectations were not realistic. I received an apology for the disappointment from the coordinator, which was cool. You can't make everyone happy, and my family was just one of the "everyone" in this case. My posting from this site got put on the samba, and the response from most over there was supportive. Sounds like all of the others that posted were pleased with the turn out. The coordinator did a good job in gathering people from all walks of life that have one thing in common, the vehicles we drive.

When you have a screen name of Biblethumpncop and a plate of 8NOHIPI, you might have a different idea of family fun than someone with variations of marijuana slang terms in their screen name. Hope they do well. I am glad that there are more than one group of VW enthusiast where you might fit in.

Ah bummer, same here. You have nice family meetings and loud meetings. Sometimes mixed like Budel, I placed pics here on another thread. Budel is big enough to have a family camping and an 'aircooled only' camping which helps.
