Hello Everyone. I am in the middle of mounting my bug eye kit, fenders and hood to my 68. I bought a kit used off of craigslist for $50. Cracked but a little glass work is a good thing to learn.

I got the fenders bolted into place.
The flanges on the hood don't line up with the hinges at all so i am going to use hood pins.

I have been trimming more and more off the front to get the bug eye kit to fit. it seems like i just can't make it line up right. if i line up the front piece with the fenders the hood is like an inch short.

did they make different kits for different years of bugs?

Do the kits normally line up good or do you normally have gaps?

If someone could take pictures looking down inside where the spare goes so i can see how it was trimmed i would greatly appreciate it.

here is a pic. I have trimmed off a lot more and got the nose on further now but still not far enough i think.

Seems like i have the same kit. It is dark here already but I can make pics tommorow.

Comparing yours and mine I'd say you have to cut of some more.

Perhaps this one helps a bit (never mind the flats, I'm having neighbourhood probs):

Was the hood trimmed for some reason?

Now I see that too. I didn't notice, it is shorter than mine. Probably because the previous bug had its nose cut off to much?

thanks for the pic. After messing with it some more i realized i was trying to mount it too low. when i raised it thing fit a little better.

It does look like my hood is shorter than yours. straight down the middle my hood is 33" a.k.a. 83.82cm
