Probably a stupid question but whats out there for a fuel tank to fit behind the back seat? I have a one peice front end w the battery and a spare tire under the hood so the fuel tank has to be moved behind the back seat. Theres all ready a fuel cap/tube installed to put fuel in but all the tanks Im finding on line are fit for just a cap and not to hook a hose to. Any ideas? I could always just have the aluminum tank neck cut off and a bung welded on.

i think you can mount a small fuel cell, like 10 gallons. move it all the way against the firewall, and you might be able to put in a bench. here is a baja with a 10 gal fuel cell, and it looks like there is enough room for some seats.

the picture doesnt show much space but there is quite a bit

Never mind Im completely stupid. Just got onto Summit and found a bunch of them. Looks like I can fit a 15 gallon and still have room for the back seat. Thanks for not laughing at me.

your welcome, you might even be able to have 1 custom made if you found the right place.

or you could build your own and have these guys build a bladder for it.
www.aerotechservicesin...ices.shtml
i saw these guys at an offroad show, and they said you build a fuel cell to your needs, any shape or size and they will build a bladder for it and a fuel cap. pretty cool

A VW T-2 tank also fits there. I weld the filler door and tube from a T-1 into the 1/4 panel.

I have the fliler installed all ready, its an old charger filler neck w the flipper to it. It looks pretty trick. Now I just need the gas tank. You say the Type 2 will fit behind the back seat? You have any pics of that?

68-79, 68-74 are the easiest since they are set up for carbs. 75-79 require plugging the return line not a big deal.

I looked at the one I started I had not made the mount yet. I used 1x1 angle or square tubing and 1"x1/8" straps. On the ones that were not attached to a cage I welded 5/16" id diameter tubing throught the 1" to keep it from crushing. I made 3x3 x1/8" washers from flat stock on both sides to keep it from pulling though the fire wall and floor.

I'm digging this thread! Mine is a 12 gallon marine tank and it fits behind my seat, but it's kinda cool to know about the T2 thing. Post some pics when you get a chance!

I was thinking of just going with an RCI 16 gallon set up, it has the sender and all that as well as the straps in one easy set up. Plus I think it would look trick sitting behind the seat. Seems like the measurements would almost be perfect for the application.
