It's not. Just plain old Arizona windblown powdery dust.

The little swipe off the corner of the belt housing cover is from me. The paint beneath is bright gloss black. The powerwasher will make it look like new. It ran well before parked, but the neutral safety switch is bad.

I'm not going to give into the doomsayer's pessimism until I have a crack at one of these. (Not that you are one, oldfart!)

I have faith. It will be a mechanical challenge or a wonderful ownership experience...or both....and either is fine with me.

Jeff

Plus I bought a Vega....new. yep, I'm that guy.
And I think the Aztec is kinda neat in a ugly funk way.

Aztek? GAWD. Even I don't like those!!!

Corvair? Wow. I'm impressed. But Vegas are good for cramming a small block V8 into.

I'll inform you of my progress, or lack thereof.

Jeff

couple of 63 corvair coupes, both automatics. 2 corvair vans, one a camper conversion like VW, the other a panel van. The panel I overhauled, installed a big bore kit with no head gaskets...upped the compression a tad. It'd peg the speedo, just what you need to do in a rearend heavy box. Did you know the corvair flat 6 weighs as much or more as a smallblock chevy? And the transaxle was basically a chevy 3 or 4 speed box with a pumpkin grafted to the back. Everything cast iron except the heads as I recall. Over rev 'em and you threw the fanbelt, which turned 180' on itself as it went thru the idler, great huh. And if you slid around the corner with a oil leaking engine...instant blue cloud inside. The 65 and later were actually better handling than a Vette at the time, but it was too late. Nader had spoke.

Got it home yesterday, and cleaned it up. I buffed out the paint oxidization and waxed it. Man, I can't believe it is the same car. It looks great.

The front passenger fender has been replaced, and it has been repainted. But it exceeds my expectations.

Maybe starting it up tomorrow!

Jeff

Nice. Get rid of the exhaust endpipes, they don't fit.
Does it have many miles on the clock?
Price is good to!

Thanks!

It has 81,600 miles, and they are correct. I will be putting a stock exhaust on it for sure.

Well, I got it started today....

And then, the #1 plug blew the threads out of the head. Crap.

Helicoil next, then try again!

That's not an autostick. That's fully automatic! I used to have a '69. Same thing.

I'd say you scored on that one.

I wish I saw that pup for $600.
