I was wanting to paint my intake manifold on my stock 1600 sp (converted to doghouse) and was wondering if I could get away with using something other than high temp paint. The aluminum colored paint I want to use is good up to 200 degrees....

As always, thanks for any suggestions.

I wouldn't think that the intake manifolds get to over 200*, except in the area of the flange where they attach to the cylinder head. That's probably going to be your problem area right there.

Have them hi-temp powdercoated instead maybe....

intakes run cool, in fact you cn have them freeze and build up frost. The castings of the DP head might get hot, but the runners down from the carb will be cool. Air & Fuel and Vacuum make a real nice evap type cooler inside the intakes. That is why you have the little pre heater tubes.

I think your safe.

Thanks guys! ..just had my tins powdercoated last week as a matter of fact, a cool red color. It was a bit pri$ey, but the guy did an excellent job! I have some high-temp paint that's "silver", but it has that BBQ look about it that says; "CHEESE!!!". I'll go with the aluminum color..

By the way, can you suggest a good way/tool to use to tighten that hard to get nut at the base of the intake on the flange?
