No, it was already LP. Scott suggested buying a new frame head for the additional length I'll get from it to make up the 2.25" reduction in wheelbase from the longer front trailing arms. That way my front end don't look skwooshed.

UPDATE- Well, today Scott (Bajawarrior) came over with his welder, and we whacked the framehead off of my car. EEEK! We trimmed and measured, measured and trimmed, and tacked the new one in place. Went to hang the beam for some more measuring to make sure it's ready to weld, and doggonit if the beam won't mount up right cuz the threaded inserts in the frame head are crooked. Can't get the bolts started to get it in place. Gonna have to figure something out. Talked to Chirco about it, and their suggestion was to drill out the threads, and run longer bolts all the way through the frame head with nuts welded on the back end AFTER it's tightened up and trued. Not 100% wild about that idea, but not looking forward to trying this all with another aftermarket frame head either.

Oh well. We'll get 'er figured out somehow...

Is the frame head been tweaked or why is it crooked?

It appears that the main problem is the threaded inserts for the four bolts are not installed straight. And, sincer they're more than an inch long and welded in place at both the front end AND the back end of the head, it's impossible to realign them. I just came in from messing with it some more, and now it appears to me that in addition to the holes being crooked, it seems to me like they're not the proper width apart (the two pairs of holes, measured from side to side) either. When Scott welded the brackets to the beam, we had it bolted to an OG frame head at the time, PLUS today when Scott came over, I had the beam bolted to the car on my stock frame head before we cut it off. So, the beam has been bolted to two different OG frame heads with no problem, but now won't bolt to the aftermarket one I've got. *sigh*

Nothing can be EASY you know...

That says it all. I was thinking how did the frame head get tweaked if it has been used before, because it had not and some 12 year old Chinese kid made it.

Ok, so here's the latest. After trying TWO Brazilian frame heads, we decided that they both sucked and not to use them. The bolt alignment on the replacement one Chirco sent me was definitely better than the first, but still not that great. So, before butchering the second one, we decided to just surgically reattach the OG head with a 1/8" thick extension. This pic shows the welding only PART way done- it ended up having a plate across the bottom and being completely boxed, with complete welds on the outside, and more on the inside of it.

So, here it is with the beam attached. There's still some work to do on the "floor" of the pan (filling in those gaps, etc.), but this is where it's at currently.

I wanted to get the front clip attached so I could see if my shock towers were going to hit the body, but alas, it looks like I'll be fine.

Here's a front view, with the front end installed. Front end is a little crookedly trimmed, but Scott measured and measured and measured from every conceivable angle to make sure the beam is square with the pan.

So, now it sits on hold again, as I leave on business Monday for two weeks. My next project is to drill and tap the bronze kingpin bushings for grease zerks, then I'll press the bushings into the combo spindles and start assembling the front end some. The plan right now is to get together with Scott again when I'm back in town and finish the extension mod- steering column, bumper modification, and cage supports (upper and lower beam).

Looking good, the right decision to use the original frame head. Just a suggestion drill and tap your grease fittings on the back of the beam, little more protection from the elements and objects. Doing good though, hurry up and get back so we can see more.

I've been going round and round with how/where/why/why not to do this. My biggest concern is getting the grease through the beam and through the poly bushing to the arm, without the zerk protruding to the point of rubbing the arm. Suggestions?

I took the arm out, drilled a small hole all the way through both tube and bushing then drilled larger hole in tubing (barely into bushing) and tapped for the grease fitting. The threads on the grease fitting barely protruded past the tubing. Been good for awhile now, have scraped the tubing but because the fittings are behind not a worry. You ever tried getting tree bark out of the hole of a grease fitting? that is why I changed it. Phone call away if you need help, one of these days will be able to come over and help.

Really nice job! I can't wait to see it all back together again. I keep thinking I need to move mine forward, but I just can't stand the thought of being without it for that long. I know it's going to be a fairly big project.

It'll happen some day, for sure. I should have done it when I did my LP conversion, but the thought never even crossed my mind.

UPDATE- It's been awhile since I've posted on here, but then again progress was slow/non-existent for awhile too. Scott made it back over yesterday. We got the upper beam braces (go through firewall and slip onto my cage under the dash), and also lower beam braces all fabbed up. Came to the realization that with the Warrior beam, the OG steering box was NOT gonna work. Found a used rack and pinion box on Craigslist yesterday with a little help from Daryll, so I flew across town tonight (hadn't had the Wichita spam-can out of the hangar for ahwile!) and picked up the rack and pinion.

Here's a pic-

Sooo, now we have to get u-joints (x2) for the center steering mechanism, make up the tie rods, and that should be about it for the fab work that requires Scott's help. Then, I've got to powdercoat/install the lower beam supports, paint/install the upper beam supports, assemble the trailing arms, install the spindles and plumb the brakes (front and rear). The rear shock mounts need redone (upper), and the shock mount location on the "new" 3x3 rear arms is going to necessitate reworking the fenderwell cutouts for the shocks to pass through. Time to start watching ebay for a good deal on a wetsuit!

I'll post some pics this week of how things are looking...

Also the pictuers and the good & bad of your build helps everyone....

Will do.

Are you talking about his bent shock towers? I think that's mainly attributable to the fact that he's running coilovers, so ALL the weight of the car is absorbed by the shocks, and consequently the shock towers (upper shock mount, specifically). On a torsion/bypass shock setup like I have, the weight of the car is still being absorbed down in the beam, so I don't think I'm likely to experience that sort of problem.
