Heres another Baja that should of been driven and not painted. A friend gave up on it, when he traded his turbo engine for a cage 3x3 arms, Vanagon transaxle and a 16v VW engine. It never ran and he sold it to me.
I installed a 3 rib T-2 transaxle used 1915 air cooled engine. I sold the 16 valve engine and Kennedy adapter.
The drivers 1/4 panel had to be replaced. The old one had over 2 gallons of bondo in it.

It had hit everything but the lottery.

Time for a few patterns.

Nothing like a tight fit.

I was able to sand blast most of the rust off in the cavity and paint it before welding the new patch in place.

Can you say tweeker with a drill.

Some rocket scientist decided to fill the A-pillar cavity to the top with self expanding foam.

Resulitng in this.

Even the lower hinge was severely rusted.

I think they were trying to keep this stuff from rattling.

Some one bolted a roof rack to the roof. Bad idea. Note the beautiful crazed red lacquer paint.

After sand blasting the interior and trunk I ended up spending over three hours with the air nozzle bowing sand out of the heater channels and other cavities, vacuuming out about 200#s of sand.

When I bought the Baja someone had cut out the rear trunk to install the cage. The replacement id made from a VW Rabbit roof. Its made of 4 pieces. The left and right were formed by making a wooden buck that fit the contours of the left and right 1/4 panels.

For $275.00 the friend I bought the Baja from had the VW dealer in Guadalhara, Mexico install two piece hub and disc brakes and 7.00 15 front tires.

I widened the beam 9". It will get four supports added from it to the cage for support.

It has old school widened stock wheels and 33x12.50 BFG's.

The A pillar and dash are looking better.

New inner lf fender patch.

It will be a lot easier to finish the passenger door off the Baja.

There were a lot of cracked body parts. Three on the drivers door.

Is it just me, or does that front tire/wheel look like it weighs like 400 pounds? Weird how the look of the tire can give the impression of mass weight...

Lookin' good though, perrib! You've got a LOT of time invested in that thing it appears.

Locutisj

It will get finished and see some street usage before getting sold. It will be painted the same colors as Baja #1.

The body work is only close to being done compared to time served. The camera hides what the block reveals. There is at least another 20 hours of priming and block sanding left excluding the hood and nose before it can head to the paint booth. Four more bars are still needed to connect the cage to the wider front beam. A 2387 will provide the torque to motivate it.
