Under the back seat, just in front of the inspection cover for the shift coupler.

if the center hump (i forget the name)of your pan isn't rusty don't worry about vin numbers just replace the sides, about 120. for both sides in hot vw ads.

do you have the title to your baja, and plan to make it street legal?

if so you might run into some problems with a ground down vin number. i'd wait and see what others have to say. especially since you live in cali, with all those crazy experi(mental) laws.

If you have the vin on the body, you might be able to get away with it.

if you have a 72, and the pan is 69, you may not have to worry about vins. my wifes 69 vin is in the winda not on the pan.
