Hey guys. Just finished mounting the body back to the pan with the lift kit in between. Very Happy I started cutting away at the hole for the steering column, did a mock-up mount of the column and noticed that she was a bit short. Confused I could make up the difference by sliding the clamps but I don't get good vibes from that approach. Shocked
What I was thinking was adding a second steerling coupler to fill the gap. The thickness of that should suffice.

What do you guys think? or more importantly, what did or would you do?

With the lift the angle will be off. A trip to the bone yard should produce a useable u joint and shafts. Lastest Rage sells a u joint and stub splines for about $40.00.

I kept the column in the stock location and went the u-joint route. I used the u-joint assembly from a super beetle. If you get a spare column just use the top bearing on the bottom because the stock column has no bottom bearing.

I looked at Chirco (and others) before I asked.
The only thing I saw was: www.chircoestore.com/c...ts_id=4186
Is that all I need. I know NOTHING about SB's so will this fit my 68' colum and gear box?

You may have to call them. "They are universal". You may have to drill the shaft larger or shim it smaller. Either way use plug welds to hold the stubs to the tubing. Its the 5/8" 36 spline u joint AC 425020 and stub spline
ac 425160. They may not be using the same#'s. I got the #s from Pacific Customs.

Mooreparts.com also has them. Give Chiro a call first, thier customer service is good. I never had anything shipped from Karls just walk in but they are good. Pacific Customs has terrible customer service. I ordered a couple of parts and told them only ship them in one box, do not ship from multiple locations. When it arrived in two boxes I called and they basically said take a hike, its thier shippers fault.
