It's time (finally). I'm headed out to the garage right now to start tearing the front and rear end apart.

FRONT MODS-
Warrior +6 beam
"Tweed" 2 1/4 x 1 chromoly front trailing arms
SACO billet front hubs with cross-drilled rotors
SACO rack and pinion steering
Wilwood 2-puck calipers
Pro-comp 10" (or 12") shocks with external reservoirs

REAR MODS-
Chenowth chromoly tubular 3x3 arms (with fresh hammered silver powdercoat) Wink
SACO billet rear hubs with crossdrilled rotors
Wilwood 4-puck calipers
Pro-comp 10" (or 12") shocks with external reservoirs

I have a proportioning valve and Jamar linelock to install as well...

Will have to work out which shocks are going where when I get things going a little bit. Probably going to require some cage re-work and inner fender mods to get the upper shock mounts set up right...

The current configuration is-
FRONT:
stock-width cut and turned LP beam
stock arms
drum brakes (not hooked up- left front doesn't even have a backing plate)

REAR:
boxed-style heavy duty (thick) 3x3 arms
930 CVs
bus KYB shocks
aftermarket 4-lug disc brakes with wide-5 adapter plates

Gonna be a project, but I can't wait until it's DONE!!!

I'll try and take pics along the way.

Yes, photos - I will be doing the 6" over beam too.

I'm sorry again about the Chirco pickup...

I wish! I'm hoping a month, but there's gonna be some cage re-working and such that's beyond my capability that I'm sure will slow me down some!

Umm- they're gonna be for sale as soon as they're off the car. I know a couple guys are interested, but in all honesty, I gotta try and get top dollar for them or the CFO's gonna fire me. Laughing

I'll have an ad up for them as soon as I can, with pics and price.

Are you going with coilovers on the rear or staying with torsions? Is there a rule of thumb for 3x3's for using coilovers vs torsions?
It's Ok about the $$ on the old parts. I have so much to do now on mine (that I'm not doing... Embarassed ) that I had better get it running again first! Laughing

I'm staying torsion- you can do either with 3x3's. I've got some Pro-Comp bypass shocks with reservoirs that I'm going to run. Some people even switch to coilovers AND still run torsion bars, with no preload. So, there's a lot of different ways to skin this cat. Laughing

Sooo, here's an update on my progress: NOT MUCH. Laughing

I've got the front end mostly disassembled. Next step is to separate and remove the tie rods, then remove the spindles, and at that point the beam is pretty much ready to come off. I'm running into a couple minor issues like my caliper mounting brackets- the mounting holes for the bracket don't quite line up with the three holes in the spindle (where backing plate was mounted), so I'll have to see about getting the right ones for that. Also, some wheel bearing size issues with my spindles. I asked the seller I bought my SACO setup from if they could be used with stock VW spindles, to which he replied YES, no problem. Well, I've found a problem or two! Crying or Very sad I'm sure they're problems that can be easily resolved though, we'll just have to see how much it costs me to solve them!

We'll see how things go here...

No, I don't think so. Came off of a rail that was almost a pre-runner. I'm sure there was no way it coulda been a BJ beam- the thing was SICK.

Yes, my car is LP.

But if it came off a combo spindle then it would be a BJ setup, it is smaller then the one you have right?

I'm not gettin' what you're asking. The pattern for the three mounting screws on the caliper bracket is a larger pattern than on my stock linkpin spindle. They're close, but the pattern on the spindle is smaller.

Maybe what we've got going here is a misunderstanding of what the "combo" in combo spindle really means. Confused
