just installed my new vdo 120mph speedometer, and i did the autocalibration. it didn't calibrate it right. the instructions say that you can do a manual calibration if you know the pulse per mile for your vehicle. my bug is a 70. any help would be appreciated.

I have the same speedo. It's much simpler to do it this way:

If you have a handheld GPS, just drive and match the speedometer reading to the reading on your GPS.

If you don't have a GPS, have a buddy drive in a separate car at a predetermined speed, say 40 MPH and match your speedo that way.

The way I did it, I have a radar gun, and matched my speedo to what the radar gun said.

It took all of about five minutes to have it right on the money!

Hope that helps!

i guess im not understanding how i can change my speedometer reading to match the right speed while im driving. i did the auto calibration a couple of times just based off of 1 mile, and it worked but the calibration is way off. your way sounds much easier. I will post some pics of the bug soon with an intro. i have to work the next couple of days. and safford is a small town!, but somebody sounds familar with it so i live at the base of mt graham on swift trail. grew up in pima.

Here's a step-by step:

1. Push and hold the button in while you turn the car on. Hold the button in until you see the word "AdJuST" When it shows up release the button.

2. Press the button once, and the word "Up" will display. If you press it twice really quickly "dn" (for DOWN) will display.

3. Drive the car with your GPS, radar gun, or buddy as mentioned before.

4. If the needle needs to be moved up to match your speed, hold the button in while "Up" is displayed. If it needs to go down, do the same with "dn" displayed.

5. If no buttons are pushed for one minute, you'll need to start over at step 1, as it will revert to the normal operation mode.

I hope that helps.

One thing obviously worth mentioning: Pick somewhere with no traffic or road hazards, as your eyes will be off the road while doing this. Better yet, have the passenger do it while you drive. Be safe first. You can't drive the car from a hospital bed.
