Hi all,
I own a 76 baja and live in Northern Canada. I hope with some of my creativity (and members wisdom and guidance) will allow myself and others to enjoy our bajas as much as I/we do. I've always loved the bug from the very first one I bought out of someones back yard when I was around 16.

$150.00 back then, right now I'm thinking I should of kept her, she made a great baja. The Contruction Co. that was building the new expressway through the farmlands where our small town was located didn't seem to think so. Hey I was 16. On a 16 year olds buget it wasn't pretty but it worked. Lets just say they became experts at grading and I became a pretty damm good baja racer!
I thank you all for allowing me to introduce myself and hope to become good friends with all.

Great! Welcome aboard. As you know, the Beetle has the makings of a fantastic offroad car. Just ad money! LOL

Get a car, and start building. This is a great place with great people, and a wonderful repository of good info.

Jeff

I thought your name was GODTUNES at first glance! I wanted to hear that music! Welcome aboard, bro.

Get some pictures up of your ride. We all want to see them. You say you have a '76 baja? That would probably be the newest one around that I've ever seen. Is/was it Super Beetle with MsPherson struts, or a std. bug with ball joint? I didn't think they made a std bug in 76. Things may be different in Canada, though.

We'd love to see the ride, and I hope you stick around and have a little fun with us.

Ooooo Canada.....

Welcome from just across the border... Eh

Best place I’ve found on the inter-net for Baja people to interact, and info...

Our problem is that most of these (Great) guys are way out west and we most likely won't get meet up with, and go riding with them anytime soon ...

When I posted pictures of my Baja they were wondering what all the "Green Stuff" was in the background...LOL

Did you get to the Lansing Show / Swap (Michigan Buggy Builders Show) last month? There are a lot of guys from Canada that come to it... Good Stuff…

Maybe one of these days one of us can cross the border and hit the trails together... Eh

Kay…..So we go to Tim Horton’s … Roll Up The Rim or have a Pop… or maybe just go and pick up a Two - Four … Ah… That’ll learn ya … Eh

Anyway... Welcome… and GO RED WINGS ... Eh … LOL

I second that from an ex-across the river, Detroit suburbia.

Hi All,
Thanks for the warm welcome. Only my 2nd post and you've made me feel like I'm part of the gang.
As far as posting some pictures, I've tried but I'm failing. I can't seem to follow the FAQ instructions Rolling Eyes
(But my girlfriend can't either and she's not a forum n00b like myself.)
Do we ned to start a new topic to post them?
As far as my bug (nicknamed Glen) it's a '76 with a standard balljoint beam, IRS rear. Though looking at the doors at first, I thought it was an earlier one. It's got basic drum brakes, which I'm hoping to switch over to all-disc brakes. The previous owner's converted it to a watercooled 1995 golf gti 2.0 engine, with a cam, adjustible cam gear, header, and custom exhaust.
This is very neat in itself, but it would be cool to have a complete and oringinal start for my baja. Even though from what I remember they needed a tweak here and there Wink
31x10.5" tires on the back, 235s on the front - which I think are a tad too big. It's jacked high. 1/4" turn - not too sure how many degrees on the back, but gotta find out, starting this weekend because it's LOADED too much. Riding too stiff for me. Though it looks real sweet.
The transmission's stock, with a Kennedy clutch, lightened flywheel.
More projects to come.
