Hey, cool. I just revamped my ad for the wheels sitting in your garage, LOL.
I have to wonder how much I have already (repeatedly) overrevved my motor....

Amazing transition [applauds]
I secretly like the superdude hood-ornament as well.

Thanks, Tim. I am starting to suspect this is a bottomless pit in both time and monetary investment, potentially.
The latest work is the replacement of one of the rear (Type 3) drums. It was wearing badly, I thought it was a bearing going out. It was making a loud growl on the freeway.
Both bearings were good, I repacked them anyway. The splines were just about to let go on the drum. They were worn to nubs! New drum at Chirco tomorrow, should have it wrapped up tomorrow evening.
Added some super obnoxious Alternator and oil pressure fail lights on the dash. If I am screaming at speed on some dusty goat trail and something takes a dump, I want to know RIGHT NOW. They are LED running lights, super bright. I will also be installing a loud buzzer which goes off with the low oil pressure light.

Yep. Just like the low brake air pressure buzzer on a 2 1/2 ton M35 military truck! LOL
I can live with that....I already have to hear a VERY loud vibrator fuel pump up front every time I start up. Actually, the whole time the car is running. It is mounted to the front tub under the fuel tank.
Many people mount electric fuel pumps in the rear, but the truth is, they are designed to push fuel, not suck it. Better to mount it near whatever tank you run.
My car is not about comfort, it is all business, and getting more so as time (and money) passes!

Ok thanks, mine factory is bad/dead and i have a 2 position (i found one in the vw between seat rails) in it right now. I love those metal 3 position switches :), where do you get yours? Harbor freight wanted 3.50 for those each! |
The local auto parts store...NAPA should have something like that. This one was in it when I got the car.
If not, Radio Shack WILL have one.

Swapped out the stock Solex 32 PICT 1 for a better carb. HUGE improvement. I can squak the 31" rear tires now.
New carb is Zenith 32NDIX with individual runner manifold. (Thanks mas_fina!!!)
I can chirp the 31s now.
Jets at:
120 main, (a little lean, but hell...it is running great.)
Air Correction - 220
Pilot - 50
Pilot bleed - 140
I had to improvise the air cleaner mounting, but kept my 2 stage UNI filter.
I richened the accelerator pump squirt to fix a flat spot on mashing the throttle. Other than that, it was a smooth installation.

I added some yellow roll bar padding today. I wanted blue, but Chirco was out of that color.
Next come some roll cage upgrades.
I have come to the realization that I will not have a bench rear seat. I am going to add a fuell cell, (or poly tank), my new (used) fan equipped oil cooler, oil filters, and some other stuff back there...too much for a big old seat.
I am also going to tie in the roll cage with the rear bumper, and mount the spare tire half in and out of the rear window.
