Post Post subject: Chrome Engine Worth the Money?

Hi! I'm new to bajas and as I'm fixing a building I always seem to run into chrome pieces on ebay. I'm the type that would rather have my plain engine match itselfs plainess. But when chrome part auction comes up cheap parts are cheap parts.

What I'm asking is if its a hassle. Do these parts need to be polished or cleaned? If I hose off my car after muddin will I have to take the time to dry it to avoid water spots? Any thoughts?

It's great if you don't plan on driving it or working on it. Chrome = burnt atms. JMO

I wouldnt go with crome unless you want to show your baja...i would get painted tins. I have just black and i can hose it off and forget about it. they come in all diffrent colors. i know over in the classified section the thesamba.com there was an ad for powercoated tims in like 6 diffrent colors.

Just remember that most of the aftermarket stuff is crap and most of it fits like crap also. You get what you pay for!! And by the way I run chrome and it hoses off just like the painted stuff.

yea but dont you get water spots on your chrome? and i agree that you get what you pay for. i would find a buggy shop and actually hold the tins and look at them before i buy them. i hate buying stuff off the net, unless i have seen it in person, then get it cheaper on the net. =]

Thanks for the advice guys! I think I'll end up making friends with the local aircooled parts guy for some non chrome pieces. Cause those water spots would drive me crazy. Shocked

Or if you want get the chrome pieces and take a Scott bright pad (scrubby dish washing pad minus the sponge), Use it to dull the crome, youll notice it puts a grain to it and gives it a brushed aluminum/stainless steel look. the only reason I suggest this is you can find new chrome pieces for cheaper than painted, I dont know why just what Ive found. or if you can find good sets of used OEM; strip them to bare metal, clean them up, get em powder coated.Usually it isnt much for black, I just had my side sprint bars done and it cost me $20 for the pair.
