Thinking about getting my own welder and attempting to do my own work. This turn out to be a huge mistake, but which of these would you chose for body work?

Of course since I know nothing about welding maybe there is a better one for a good price that you know of. Any info would be pleasantly received.

Thanks Chad

Those would probably be fine for bodywork. It would be interesting to know who makes the welders for Sears so you know what you are actually getting. If you are going to do structural stuff ie roll cage stuff, get a stronger, better machine.

I have even used an arc welder with a stitching attachment from
Eastwood for body panel stuff in the past.

Lots of people have strong opinions on brands like everything else. PM bajawarrier since he does expert body work and ask his opinion on the welder.

I'm no expert but I would stick with a wire feed and spend the extra for the MIG set-up.

I've got a Lincoln weld-pak 100 with the MIG add-on and it works great for stitching body panels. It takes some practice not to burn thru, so start with a scrap part from the junk yard... or FIE's car will work also...

I'm not so sure Brian would be ready to donate to that cause just yet. Shocked

Laughing
Come on Brian, take one for the team! If I was in AZ I'd let him weld on my fenders! Cool

Zoom:
Whatever you get, go with the bottle set-up. The inner flux core wire is dirty and leaves behind all kinds of nasty stuff. If money is no object and you will be staying will metal on the thinner side.... then you should be looking at a TIG set-up.
