so i'm trying to figure out the best way to mount a 2" reciever hitch on my baja.

The Reason: i will use the hitch to mount a motorcycle carrier or luggage rack that i can mount my future toy on, a 2008 Honda Ruckus.

why a Ruckus?

BECAUSE I CAN! Twisted Evil and it's dirt cheap at $37/month

so i'm thinking one of two options:

OPTION A: Get a REALLY strong engine cage and mount the reciever to that.

OPTION B: Get a hitch built for bugs, which i have found but am not too satisfied with.

Any idears?

no thats not a typo i really did say IDEARS.

HONDA RUCKUS

looking for a rack, something like this one

Well you asked for my opinion. First thing to do it put a cage in the car and tie the rear bumper to it so it will actually be strong enough to support a hitch. Then just weld a receiver to the bumper.

I think it'd be easier on your car to tow one of those itty bitty trailers (the ones that fold/stand up against the wall) rather than try and carry the weight on the back of your car/cage. The tongue weight of one of those little trailers with a scooter like that would probably only be 50-60 pounds, as opposed to a few hundred. Plus, the monstrosity of a cage you'd have to build to support that weight would always be in your way when you needed to work on your car.

Just my .02.

Maybe you build a ramp and drive it up on the top, you know make it look like a bicycle, you could weld in some supports in the roll cage. Besides it would be hilarious!!

i'd love to do the cage thing, tieing into the rollcage was one of my ideas.

I have a rear bumper with a reciever welded on already...you would need to substantially support it for your application, but I'll trade it for a 12 pack of Tecate if you come and get it!

I have a tb hitch on my baja. it works great for my 4x8 box trailer. If you do not have Disc brakes on your car for get about it, also make sure you do not try and pull more than the waight of your baja. The trailer will push your little car all over the place. You need to balance your load in the trailer too. This is a baja, not a Chev 1 ton tuck...

I like the small trailer idea. I bought one of those cargo carriers for my motorhome and it wobbles too much. I can imagine what it would feel like on the back of a baja with 150-200 lbs on it.

But then again, if Daryll builds you a monster bumper, you can have your friends stand on the carrier and you can pop your front wheels off the ground real easy!
