Not sure what I got going on here

Might buy a rewire kit If I need to.
.
Clean (painted exhaust and unsiezed.

Side shot. Tree bar mounts will reinforce where the jack support bent upwards

Ok, maybe I'm missing it, but what are your questions?

Ooops. I put the pics but no questions Sad

Does my wiring look normal or screwed with?

Those stock hood springs are STIFF.. VERY stiff. Take them off and make a hold-up bar?

Is it normal for the jack support to do what mine did. (last pic) I think Ill bend it back down carefully, and put some metal strips on each side and make my side bars off them.

Heh, your wiring looks "normally screwed with." 99% of all dubs on the road fit in this category. Is something specific not working?

Hood springs are designed to carry the full weight of a sheet metal hood, not a 'glass baja nose, so they're going to behave more stiffly on a baja. You might look at a set of gas struts from your local auto parts store. Usually the kind that are used on camper shells work well and come in lots of different sizes.

And lastly, yes. Especially with the rot in the panel right above it like that. They're not super strong to begin with and they weaken over time unless reinforced or replaced. You're never gong to use a stock jack on it since it's a baja, just sawzall it off Smile You're going to want to do something about those rocker panels too. How do the heater channels look?

It is very easy to wire a bug if you decide to re-do it.

I wish I had "hood" supports of some kind, instead of the piece of wood I use.

I can solder pretty good. So I know I can rewire, just gotta find me a schematics, or diagram (I have a huge chilton vdub manual)

I thought about going to the junkyard and find some struts. Even if they arent new they only have to hold a fiberglass hood not a whole metal hatch. I might go check on my XJ struts, and if they work. Junkyard time.

Heater channels look good, I Just rippd out cargo carpet, going to strengthen my cargo area, and put a gas tank later on with a filler neck to my rear window.

bugzyla posted a schematic in the last 2 weeks here, think it was bajachik or something. Heck your underhood wiring ain't bad at all. Someday that 'glass hood will span in two when you try to close it with those springs. Take 'em off and steal the wifes mop handle.

Here is the simplest wiring diagram to follow. Its for a 65-66 bug.

P.S. Check the wiring from the generator to the voltage regulator. It looks a little backwards unless thats some off the wall aftermarket regulator.

Wiring

DF on on Reg to DF on Gen

D+ on Reg to d+ on Gen

B+ on Reg to Battery +

61 Terminal on Reg to Idiot Light.

Its a 12v conversion (not a 66 schematics since 66s are 6v)
