Weird title for a thread, I know.... You'll understand in a minute:

I was about a mile and a half from home yesterday, and my throttle cable broke. I was too lazy to get out my roadside emergency kit and install my spare. I used an old trick I knew from back in the day that I've never talked about here. I took off my shoe laces and tied them together. Then I tied one end to my carb linkage, and operated the other end with my left hand out the driver's window.

I'm putting in the HEAVY DUTY one today that I had. I knew at was just a matter of time before the other one broke anyway.

It's a cool trick to remember if you ever break down and don't have a spare with you (shame on you for not carrying one).

It was a suprise ending! With a twist!! I give it two thumbs up!!!

I saw shoelaces and cringed. I had a pair of shoes that the double knot kept coming loose and would catch on the brake pedal when driving! Shocked I got so pissed at them one day (for trying to kill me) that I threw them out the window and drove home in my socks!! Evil or Very Mad

Used shoelaces on my buddy's Jeep as a fan belt on the way back from Rocky Point once!

Eek!

Those are a couple of the tricks they taught us in truck driving school in the service (back in the 60's) Dam I'm gettn' old.....

Hook a chain / rope between the dual rear wheels and the other end to a tree or what ever and use it as a winch to pull your self out of the mud is another one...
