WELCOME!!!!

For Bajas this is the best site or just for info. The people here are great and very helpful!!!

There is also, www.thesamba.com a more general site.

Yeah, you can look for a project car on the samba. I'd stay away from a '66 though, it's swingaxle and balljoint, not a really good combo for a baja. Look for an earlier car with a linkpin front end, or a later car with an IRS rear end. You can convert one or the other and get a nice platform to build from.

IMHO, '66's are awesome for the street! Smile

This is my DD and baja, its just a toy to go play once a month or so. I know its not the best , or worst setup, but its an AMAZING deal from looking at the pics. I got 250 in cash, and soon IRS stimulant = 300, so 550 is my budget for a project (sell my cherokee for baja parts after I get a vw platform for sure)

Bro... Welcome aboard!

Please think one more time about that '66. fatal is right on target. '66's and 67's make the WORST baja platforms. Both ends need to be modified. I'd personally go '68 and up myself, especially on a budget. You can do much better for your buck that way.

Trust the advice of the guys on this site. Between everyone here, there's HUNDREDS of years of baja modifying experience and probably MILLIONS of hours of wrenching on them! This is the greatest site I've ever found on bajas, for sure.

Be patient. There's a ton of bajas and VW's still out there to be had, and the right deal will come along. Trust me.

I almost bought a '67 and like the guys here are saying, not worth it!!! I waited a little longer and found a '73!! So far the build is going great. Plenty of parts availiable and the IRS is a plus!!!

Well they are so hard to find here. I want a project but not a full out project. I want to repaint it, put new tires and rims, etc but I dont want rusted holes in the pan etc.

Holes in the pans are hard to avoid on a 30-50 year old car, even here in the desert. Patch panels are available and not that hard to install.

The only ones i can find (good years or not a hard core project) are like mint, and cost 2k+.

Sad I just want a 500-750 project so i can put 500 or so into it and save up for more stuff.
