hey guys, i really need some help to tell me what exactly you have to do to the front end of a super beetle to make it off road worty, and i mean really mild , nothing serious... my question is can you simply weld a aftermarket front beam(say 6inch wider one) to the body pan? i have no clue how this works, but my dad is a very good welder and says it can be done.

my question is, does a super beetle have that contact point where that front beam is connected to? (the red circle), if so then would it be possible to aligne it and weld it up? any info would help greatly,

wouldnt that be the same as swithching from BJ to LP?
couldnt you fab it up and hang the beam off tubing like they do on rails and stuff?
i think it should work

Thats cool. With some fab skills and a good welder, looks pretty simple and could be made as strong as you wanted with tie ins and stuff.

Yeah. You'd need to strengthen that thing for off-road abuse, that's for sure.

I've said it before here. If I had a super that I was madly in love with, I think I'd figure out how to build a long travel A-Arm set-up for it. Heck... Who's got a Super A-Arm baja anyways? There even more rare than 57 bajas.

I dunno....carcentric points out that Supers came with "bigger engines"....not sure I'd go along with him on a beam adaptor.
Actually there was a company written up in HOTVW's years ago that marketed an adaptor, as I recall it was alot more complicated than the carcentric idea. Check out the white baja in last months HOTVW mag...it's based on a super with strut front end as I recall.
But I don't think anything fairly simple will suffice to make a super into a baja. sorry. Lower that puppy, sell it to a LOWLIFE guy.

Quite a while ago, we were having this discussion and Mykul said you could cut the frame head off and weld on a link pin frame head. At the time, I had thought you would have to do a cage and tube the front end, but I was stated to be incorrect.

I'll try to search for the post.

I chopped the McPherson crap off my super and welded in an LP frame horn. beafed it up with a bunch of spot welds and voila! it was done. ... the only problem was that as much time (2DAYS!!!) that I spent measuring... it was still off by a lateral inch or less. EEK too much.. it ended up getting chopped off and tubed up. BUT, point being, you CAN weld in an LP frame horn, ($65) buck and some mig wire and youre done. I'll attempt to find pics on my home comp. when I get off work.
