so i might have a bit of a problem here. my bug sat for a few days while it was out of gas. i got some gas for it the other day and started it up. i noticed huge puffs of grey-ish smoke coming out of my exhaust. after it warmed up it stopped. i let it cool down for about an hour and got my camera to see if it was going to do it again. but instead, it didnt want to start or idle. now keep in mind this is NOT a cold start. the engine was still warmed up. this is what i got:

its been doing that for a couple of days. it starts fine in the morning when its cold, but then when the engine warms up and i shut it of, it dosnt want to start again. i was out messing with it today, when the engine was warmed up i got out to rev it a little by hand. i put one hand on the tip of my exhaust, and revved with my other hand(didnt take it past 2,000) after i pulled my hand off the exhaust(it got a bit hot) this is what i see:

now im guessing thats seriously bad. it didnt smell like oil so i have no idea what it is. any idea whats wrong with it?

Not sure but it looks like its running rich. Did your hand smell like unburned fuel afterward?

yeah. the gas tank does have some rust problems. it was the first time i ran out of gas cause i was chasing down a guy who almost t-boned me and forgot i was low Smile needless to say he got away.

ill see what i can do with the carb... but ill probably take it to the shop.

Take the air cleaner off, rev it up, put your palm over the carb throat with throttle open, should die, if not let off the gas (another problem then) that is a cheap way of finding out if you have crud in the carb, you might have to take it apart and clean it. See how it runs, how old are the plugs, wires, rotor, points?
