I've got a 1/2 ton 2wd pickup so I can't go crazy on a large trailer (i know, get the Baja on the road first - THEN get a trailer.. Embarassed ) But I was wondering ... can you use a T-type trailer for a Baja or is it too heavy?
(note: not my trailer or rig in the pic - just as an example)

Just build a small single axle trailer. I have one thats just big enough for a VW and the axle has been set back about a foot farther than normal for equal weight distribution when towing VWs. I have a 1/2 ton 2wd suburban and I have been all over the place with most of the 81 VWs that I have owned in the last few years and it hauls them fine. I have even had a few buses and that didnt drag the truck down too bad either. If you want dimensions and a few pics let me know.

i have a doulbe axle trailer that i pull with my two door tahoe no problem... dont restrict yourself to a small trailer, because down the road you'll wish you had a larger trailer...i know i did...

Why not just get a tow bar? Easier on the vehicle your pulling with not having the extra weight to pull plus tow bars are easier to store.
I was thinking like you because I plan to have semi radical tires at least on the rear of my Baja and was worried they'd get worn out from just towing. I decided to keep the skinny tires on if for towing and install the beefy ones when I reach my destination.

True, I've used a tow bar in the past. My thinking is that every previous time I broke the Baja it wasn't able to be towed so I ended up renting a U-haul. If it breaks back in BFE and I have a trailer I'll be able to haul the carcass out.
Another reason in my convoluted logic is I'd like to get a lightweight pop-up camper for the pickup bed and tow the Baja to wherever we're camping - thinking the weight of the popup and a tadem axle trailer w/Baja may be too much. Anybody tow such a setup with a 1/2 ton automatic? Thoughts?

I have had by baja to a truck scale weight 830 front axle, 1230 rear, for a total of 2160. I was an even 200 of those. Being the front is so light, I don't see why a "T" trailer wuold not work for starters.
Also check local trailer lots for "PJ" trailer brand. In 2001 I got a new 16' PJ car hauler for $1500. Dealer said he could not build one that cheap. It is licensed for 5999 lbs and weighs 2000.

I am on the same boat as you. I have the baja and a pop up tent trailer. Towing 2 things is going to be an issue since I only have one tow vehicle. The tent trailer weighs close to nothing. When I tow it with my truck (2002 Dodge Ram 1500 4 door 4x4) I even forget its back there due to it being so light. My wifes 2001 Pontiac Sunfire (1.8L 4 cylinder) pulls it.
I was thinking the same thing, getting a 16+ car hauler and mounting the tent trailer on the front and put the baja on the back. I have even considered buying a coach to camp and pull the baja but at $50,000 it is a little out of my range. So now I don't really know what to do.
I wonder if I can hook up the baja to the truck and the trailer to the baja. Road train??? I am sure I could but would definetly get a ticket.

That's why I'm thinking of a popup in the truck bed, like this www.fourwheelcampers.com/
and then the Baja on a small trailer behind. 2k lbs and change for the Baja and a small trailer, and about 1k lbs for the popup in the bed. Might be do-able? Wink Wink
