I just bought a new tubing bender yesterday. I bought it at Harbor Freight for $69.99.

Helluva deal, I thought!!!

I've been playing around with trying to make good bends with it and have succeeded in making scrap metal of about 18' of a 20' piece of 1-1/2" tubing. I think I'm getting used to it now, but I thought it would be easier to learn than it's turning out to be. Man, what a learning curve!

I really dig this thing, and should've bought one 15 years ago.

Anyway... I thought I'd share that there are benders out there that are affordable. It would have saved me HOURS of fab time and I can't even imagine what could have been accomplished if I had bought one way back when. The possibilities are endless!

If its the orange pie shaped one its not a tubing bender, its a pipe bender. If thats the case you will probably get a bunch of kinks on the inside of the bend and a flat spot on the outside.

For $70.... It's a pipe bender. A good tube bender will set you back a bit of change. The pipe dies alone run close to a couple of hundred bucks.

Hey guys, check this one out:

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=542920

Looks like a newer company selling decently priced tubing benders for the average joe garage fabricator. This is very similar to the one I built. I spent $250 for dies and then another $50 for the metal to build it. AND mine looks very similar to this.

I am tempted to sell my bender and pick one of these up.

I have a pro-tools 105 HD and I really like it. I bought several dies with it and I only have about $1800.00 in it. I also use Bend-Tech software with it. The software has more than paid for itself with the money i've saved by not wasting tubing. Just my .02

Read that carefully, I too wanted the JDSquared bender, BUT it does not include dies. The die set is another $250.

Keith -

No the bender works fine, but I am looking for something larger that I can use for more largescale jobs(probly going to switch over to air-over hydrolic or pneumatic). I am also considering picking up the Pro-tools bender (copy of the JDSquared). My dies are pro-tools and I can just pick up the bender for another $275. Just undecided right now.

Here is the link to the pro-tools bender: (same as Mocrawler has)

Lates,

Blaine

It's definitely a pipe bender, but the thing works OK for tubing if you massage it a bit. Yea, when you do bends over 45 degrees, it tends to wrinkle the tubing a bit. I found that if you slide the tubing down a half inch or so and crank it, slide it and crank it, slide it and crank it, it seems to make much better bends. I'm not up for spending a couple of grand (or even a few hundy for that matter) for the amount of tubing I need to bend, so this was a pleasant alternative... Heck, I could easily spend 70 bones on beer at a ball game! The beer would've been gone by now, and I still have the bender.

For 90 degree bends yes its a good deal. Mine was around 7 with 2 dies.

I got one of those pipe benders. Building a little buggy/go cart with it and some pipe (oh yikes).
