Daryll makes his own body lifts due to the poor quality of the channel lifts. His are made out of box tubing. Seems like a lot of work to follow the contours of the pan rail.

I am 6'4" and am not going to run one. I may be sorry, but I fit in a bug w/stock seats before and with suspension seats which sit lower I should be ok. (at least I hope) Shocked

THin and seemingly weak structure

Where I tried to hammer in the bend (i dont recommend it, you won't get anywhere)

Bend. I might add that te ruler was tilted slightly to the left because of the lip at the bottom of the pan, but still...

One OTHER FLAW was that the 4 bolt bolts they gave me to bolt down the back of the body (where the back seat goes) Did not at all line up again. I dunno why. So I got 4 of the old body bolts, and carefully, painstakingly slowly was able to get them into the lift kit and bolt the botttom of the kit to the body. Now I have to get 4 bolts and nuts to bolt the top of the body to the top of the lift kit. Make sense? So, if I would've known what I was up against before buying it, I would've just went out the 3 inches of tire clearance. But hey maybe you'll have better luck. I'd still shop around for a good or reasonable deal and quality kit.

I started this post a year ago and I still have not gotten to the point of making up my mind 100%. Yes, the body is still off but it's ready to drop as soon as I make up my mind.

What I would like is other oppinions from folks that have/had the lift kit on their Baja's. Pic's would be great!

I may have added this before but all those holes in the body in the foot area of the car all have to be sealed. I just syliconed mine this weekend but I tihnk that I am still getting leakage where the master cyl. is. Not saying this is bad, but just do it before you hit the h2o! I also recently discovered minor openings on the body bolts that go in the back. My caulk gun can't reach so I'll see how bad it leaks before I do anything. Don't do like this one guy I saw though and custom make your body lift out of wood...

You can see all of my pics on bugzyla.com in the pics section. I am 6ft tall and the body lift makes the car so much more comfortable to drive. My wife is 5'7" and likes bajas with body lifts also.

Billy,
"Wood"! Realy??? Was your friend nuckin futs or from West Va.? Laughing Laughing
I can see using this method temporary just to see how it would look height wise etc. before spending the bucks but DAMN....

BugZ,
Thanks, Ive' seen those already and it's a beauty!. I would relish some larger pic's I can see up closer but she sure looks good. Great ground clearance too! Ultimately that's my goal (ground clearance) as mine will be for playing at the beaches here on the east coast, where I've seen pick-ups get stuck. Usually because they're hard headed about droppin tire pressures down to the recommended 20 psi, but nonetheless, there can be sone deep sand ruts.

my bug also has a lift. Daryll (bugzyla) did the fab work and I installed it. There were a couple trips to get bolts and paint, but I needed it lifted for tire clearance. You can see the damage I had at the end of my video. The engine and rear bumper do look a little low, the seats have to be raised, and there is alot of clearance between the fenders and the tires, but I love it. I also installed custom lift blocks under my roll cage at the same time. Again thanks Daryll. This is all part of working on a baja to make it right for you.

2" lift on mine. It was there when I bought it. It makes it much more comfortable inside (I'm 6'4"), and gives a bit of extra room for the suspension. I'd definitely recommend it. Do it now while the body's off. You'll want to do it before you do any serious roll cage work, too.

Haha it was not a friend of mine some guy at a show trying to sell his baja with a wooden body lift. So much damage as the wood acted more as a sponge... The extra room inside is definately a plus. I am less than 6 foot tall but still...

As far as body lifts go, the cheap & thin c-channel ones that are sold for $200 are OK for the weekend warrior, but if you want a real stout body lift let me know. I build them out of 1.5" x 3" rectangular tubing and they add more support. I get $325 plus shipping for them.

Thanks for the offer Daryll.
I'm gonna be one of those "weekend warriors" I suppose.
I figured the design was pretty flimsy by the pictures. I plan on beefing it up a bit by welding in braces and such.
