Well I am in the process of changing the floorpans on my '73. I bought the Bug Me Video on floorpans to show me how to do it since I have never done this before. Well on the video the rear of the floorpan has supports that are welded to the tunnell and the floorpan is tack welded to the tunnell and very little to the supports.
My '73 did not have the supports under the rear of the floorpan. The floorpan seems to the original, all welds look like they came from the factory.

So did the later bugs, at least the '73, not have the supports and were fully welded on the rear to the tunnell for strenght??

I need help!! I have been trying to find out if the '73 has a support under the rear of the floorpan.

I am on the process of putting a new floorpan in and bought the BUG ME VIDEO to give me a better idea of what to do. Now on the video the rear "triangular" section of the floor pan where 2 bolts go through the body on to the pan had a support under it.

I cut most of the pan out and noticed that the rear "triangular" section is fully welded to the tunnell and there is no support under it.

Does anyone know if the '73 had this support under the rear of the floorpan??

Can anyone with a '73 take a picture of the bottom of the rear of the floorpan between the pan and the torsion housing??

zx10,
I've only done floor pans on a 66' and now 68'. Both of those have a hook coming off the rear torsion tube that catches under the pan near the outboard corner and should be welded. Other than that there's nothing else.
I can't imagine a 73' would be different unless some one here can correct me on that.
I can shoot you a pic of that if you need.

zx10,
Look in the Pictures section under Baja's. I labeled the two as Pan support.

That's about all there is stock. You can add more material for support along the tube and weld to both the pan and the tube as per Jeff Hibbard's "Baja Buga nad Buggies".
