Hey guys
When I was a kid there was a guy on my paper route that had a mean baja in his backyard.
Well, its been 15 years & its time to build one of my own!
What do you guys think of this car:
calgary.kijiji.ca/c-ca...dZ40502979
Its been posted twice so he obviously isnt getting any action on it.
Is 63 a good year to use? I read that 67-68's are the best & not to use supers, but thats all ive found out so far.
Is a 6v system sufficient? Would the 1200 be alright to start with?
Great forum! Hope to learn a lot
S.

Offer him $900 and your good to go.
The 63's have Link pin front ends, the desired form of suspension, but they have swingaxle in the rear, the non-goodone for offroading. I have a swing in my car, and im only using it for backroads and stuff and its fine, if your jumping thats a different story.

The engine, ya might want a little more power than a 1200 for offroading, maybe more along the lines of a 1600.
DEpends on what your using it for.

Welcome to the board, and hoped that helped ya a little.

That looks ways too nice to cut up! Look for something a little more beat up or already a Baja please. Supplies of OG cars are drying up quick.

Jox is right about the suspension though.

What is preferable for the rear suspension & what are the best years to start with?

Watch out for the '67-'68 timeframe, as some of them have ball joint front ends AND swing axle rear ends- NEITHER of which you want!

Link pin front and IRS rear all the way!

66-68 are the years to stay away from unless you dont mind converting. 66 was the first year for a ball joint front, and 68 was the last year for swing axle. So the best option is to either find a 65 & earlier car and convert it to IRS (my preference because its easier to weld in IRS ppivot brackets) or get a 69 & later and convert the front to link pin.

Alright well now Ive got an idea of what to look for.
There is another guy posting ads everyday to get rid of his 74, but it needs an out of province, which could be a real pita...
reddeer.kijiji.ca/c-ca...dZ42033412
What do you guys think about that one? I definately would pay anything over $1k if the heater channels are shot..

The floor pans and heater channels are rusted out and need replacing. The interior needs work as well, seats are worn out. Comes with new carpet.

Thats right from the ad, I would stay away from anything you have to put heater channels in. I know cutting up an older car in good shape isnt my first option, but if that early car you posted is rust free outside of the floor pan then that would be the better choice.

The problem is that here in Alberta, pretty much everything is gonna be rusted out like that. Ideally Im looking for something that I need to do the floor on but not the channels... Confused
Or on the other hand, itll be rust free, so that I need to think twice before cutting it up!

I'm defanatly not a purist. Do what you want, but don't get mad when other don't approve of what you did. Think of all the Chargers that met their untimely end do to Dukes of Hazzard or all the old steel basterized by the '80 (dechromed and painted pastel feeling ill ) I'm just saying think of the outcome before you act.

Who cares, the only reason id be concerened about the supply is that there would be none left for baja's. Id rather have a 60 baja, that a Restored 60 bug.
