People's Republic of California. Didn't they try to ban gas powered leaf blowers cuz of the noise?

i had a stinger on my street bug and it was legal as long as you have a baffle. but offroad you have to have a spark arrester.

Open stingers are in fact illegal in California and you're looking at a $200+ ticket if you're lucky enough to warrant the attention. You might get away with it on the street if you have a baffle and if on National, BLM or State Land a USDF approved spark arrestor is required. I've heard that ticket runs in the area of $500+

For the record.. I've lived in California my entire life and have spent some quality time in Arizona. I like the way they do things in Arizona better!

California Vehicle Code
Adequate Muffler Required

27150. (a) Every motor vehicle subject to registration shall at all times be equipped with an adequate muffler in constant operation and properly maintained to prevent any excessive or unusual noise, and no muffler or exhaust system shall be equipped with a cutout, bypass, or similar device.

(b) Except as provided in Division 16.5 (commencing with Section 38000) with respect to off-highway motor vehicles subject to identification, every passenger vehicle operated off the highways shall at all times be equipped with an adequate muffler in constant operation and properly maintained so as to meet the requirements of Article 2.5 (commencing with Section 27200), and no muffler or exhaust system shall be equipped with a cutout, bypass, or similar device.

(c) The provisions of subdivision (b) shall not be applicable to passenger vehicles being operated off the highways in an organized racing or competitive event conducted under the auspices of a recognized sanctioning body or by permit issued by the local governmental authority having jurisdiction.

As far from a cop as you can get.... Swine as in... picture a girl in a bar slapping some guys face calling him a PIG!

Put the baffle in b4 the visit! AZ and CA have a common ticket system... which means if you get a ticket in CA they will "sell it to AZ" for 80% of the face value for collection. Just not worth the trouble... believe me I've been there more than once.

A spark arrestor is required for off-road use on public land. It keeps embers from coming out of the exhaust. Runs about $70 for the part.

forget stingers, cops in los angeles busted me driving my street legalish sand rail. i know they didnt have a reason to pull me over but the only ticket they could seem to come up with was..... NO MUD FLAPS!!!!! actually fighting the ticket as we speak cause im not about to fabricate flaps.

there is an exemption for them:

any vehicles manufactured and first registered prior to January 1, 1971, having an unladen weight of under 1,500 pounds.

so if a cop pulls you over, its up to their digressions of what they want to give you a ticket on.
