I have always liked Bajas My very first car was a 64 bug. I used to take it off road all of the time. I did not know what a baja was back then. I just knew that I like to go off road and do 180 in wet grass after the rain.

I have owned VWs in the Northeast plowing through the snow as far back as the 1970. Now I enjoy the desert and looking cool. Very Happy

When I moved to Tucson with the family in '79 (I was 15 years old) I worked with Joe at the local swap meet. I was helping another vendor out who stopped showing up. Joe and I got along well.

Then when school started a guy I paled around with had a baja that broke down constantly. Sure was fun.

I have llike them ever since, almost 30 years.

My Mom had a bug until I was about three, and then my parents got a 80's vanagon that I learned to drive on. I remember my dad wrenching on an old Z230 when I was a kid and always wanted to learn about cars and wrenching on them. Never made the opportunity until my Wife bought me a '77 IH Scout for my birthday about 5 years ago. I've thought for a while that offroad racing is the thing for me, and would have built the scout for that but they don't really lend themselves to going fast (heavy, low hp, not alot of aftermarket, though there are a few folks doing it.) so I started looking at baja bugs. My wife recently mentioned wanting a fun little car to zip around town in and she was looking at jeeps. Being an IH guy, I couldn't have any of that, so I suggested a baja beetle, and she though it was a cool idea. We found one for a good price and since we got it last week, she has been out detailing it everynight and is totally into it! Woo hoo! Now if I can just build it up a bit without her noticing!

I grew up watching my dad and brotheres wrech on cars and trucks. It always seemed that I was in the way. So growing up I didn't much care for working on cars. Then the love affair started. I got to work on my first Vw when I was in High school. A buddy and I restored a 65. It was fun. We would go to shop class and work on at every day. After graduation I went to alaska where I bought me my first Vw a 1970. I drove it until I joined the Air Force. I got orders to Charleston AFB SC. I was looking for a new Ride when I found This 1973 Baja sitting in a parking lot for sale. I ended up paying 500.00 bucks for her. Being young and dumb I did a have A$ job on it. A few years later I got orders to Washington state. So I sold my bug to my parents. This is where I did my first Socal Bug 1963 with a 2110 man was she fast. After selling my baja to my parents I always wanted to do another. This time do it right. So a few years later I got orders back to the east coast. I am now stationed in NC. Just about a month ago I was at my parents on leave. I happen to drive by my bug sitting in a field. So I stop and went up to the house. I got to talking with the owner and after a few hours I had it loaded up and was taking it back to my parents place. My love had come full circle. I plan on doing it up right this time.

Always loved ACVWs. A friend had a oval streeter that was so cool. Moved from the norhtheast to the Nevada desert about four years ago and began to understand the offroad thing. Got a baja cuz they're so cool, great offroad or on and can be easily pulled behind the RV.

I've always wanted two things: a second gen Camaro and a Baja Bug. I'm just about finished building the Camaro, so now it's time for the Bug. The girlfriend is very into the cars, too, so that helps!

im only 14, so when i was 'bout 12 me and my cousin hatched a plan to build a buggy, any kind[one idea was a austin healy powered bronco II]
we always go to the bark river off road races and my cousin wanted me to go halves w/ him on a $2200 vw powered sandrail, i held out. then on the way up to a campsite this guy had a yard full of bugs. one was a baja and i beged my dad to stop[he was never a vw guy:]] so we stoped and my dad thought there was nobody home and no sighns but the guy walked out
and said 'which one do you want' i pointed at the baja and he said '500 bucks'.......... sold! i said and looked at my dad and he said for 500$ what da hell!.... thats how i got 'bittin by the BUG'

Just liked the look, from a offroading family, lived in Colorado, went to the mountains every weekend. Liked the look of a bugeye, but got to pull molds off a wide eye kit for free. But I always wanted a raised split window bus with big white 5 spokes. Camp when you get there.

I moved here in '79,(12 years old), and saw them around town. I just always liked the look and sound of them. There were always a few VWs in the extended family, but my dad was always a big hotrod/drag racing guy.

Offroading sounded like a blast, and my very first car was a '68 baja. My friends had hotrods, but I loved my bug. I had a couple off and on, between musclecars.

Now, it is a hobby I can enjoy with my kids, and it goes well with camping, which we also do.

Jeff

it's that oval sunroof with semafores(sp) you missed buying last year for $200 from the 2nd owner...you know, that cute blonde dancer who was sunbathing just before you got to her house to look at it. Laughing
