71 has the IRS Transaxle and would be the way to go. 67 has a swingaxle in it and not the best choice.

I agree on the 71 also as long as its a standard beetle not a super beetle.

Huh?

But yeah, I'm with what everyone else said. The '67 (ball joint front end/swing axle rear end) is basically the LEAST desirable year of all bugs if you want to build it as a hardcore baja, as you would need to change BOTH front and rear suspensions to get the most desirable combination, which is link pin front end and IRS rear end.

Soooo, since the '71 is already IRS rear, you'd only need to change the front to link pin front beam (if you wanted to even mess with it).

Welcome to the board, btw!

The 32 Ford. I think the 67 is going to be the desirable, collectible coveted model year. Like the 32, it's a one year only style, best of both worlds, just different enough to be exclusive. The 32 Ford was first year for V8, same basic shell of a model "A", but totally different overall. Grille(radiator shell)was one year only, totally different style from the A and the '33 and later. And, it's considered the most beautiful early Ford design.
The 67 has late headlights, early bumpers, lo back seats, no padded dash, 12V, and yes swing axle instead of irs. But with irs you get big bumpers and tailights, save me dashpadding, gigungous headrestraints and the beginning of smog equipment. I bet we see restored or restomodded 67 sedans and converts in the 25-50 grand range within the next 5 years if not sooner.
Just a old guys opinion......what was this thread about again? Very Happy

Is 39 old?

If so, I'm old.

But my wife says I'm a juvenille idiot, whatever that means.

Looks like I got my self into a little trouble. I'll try to be good.

Okay wellI decided to go with the 71 Std beetle. I'm Picking it up tomorrow. Best 500bucks I'll ever spend. Its already Fibergalss body is in awesome new condition no rust no defects. Practically stealing it out of this guys hands. Motor turns over but doesn't start needs new 12vlot coil ignition system... any Ideas? Bosh, MSD, other? Its a complete mean machine just what i was looking for.. 0_0 watch out new buggy in town! Woo Hoo.

Oh, and 39 isn't old but i'm only 19? so everything just seems old... Older People are wiser people... Why do you think I am here?? I like learning about new things and building my own stuff and thats what these sites are good for. So everyone can help each other and learn from one another..

Once again thanks for everything you guys have been awesome! what a welcoming!
