Is it normal for the gas tank to create a vacume to the point that when I take off the gas cap I get a big whooshing sound of the air getting sucked in? Also any ideas on why an ignition coil would get hot to the touch? I am so close to havin the car run and drive but can't get it to idle and I'm wondering if these 2 things have anything to do with it... THANKS

You can get a vented cap to solve the fuel tank problem. That could affect fuel supply in extreme cases.

I've seen it frequently in early nonvented tanks.

You need to make sure you have a ballest ristor in line with the coil or the coil has a built in ballest.

It's that white chalky looking thing.

a coil is just a spool of wire and the ballest is the load (Light bulb, motor etc.)

So a quick how it works if you take a spool of wire hook it to your pos and neg battery terminals at the same time the coil of wire will get real hot etc. and burn up, it's a bad thing. your coil is like that coil of wire. put a light bulb in the section of wire you get light and the wire stays cool as the light bulb is a restive load or ballest on the wire.

if you can mout the coil terminals up. so the cooling oil can cool the coil of wire inside the coil. never mount a coil upside down or evan on it's side, it's bad for the coil.

AZBAJA, do you have a pic of the resister or where I could get one? Right now the wire comes directly from the ignition swith to the coil, and then the wire from the dizzy conects to it and thats it.. If the coil has a built in
ballist how would I tell?
