My bug has 31's and have about 1 in. clearance too. Ya don't want to push it. Keep in mind, the larger the tire, the taller final gearing you have.

31x10.5 on 15 is the normal tire size for most Baja's. Not to big to rub or over work the engine.

you might want to think about what gears your running in your tranny.... i have 30's on my buggy, remember the taller the tire, the slower your going to be, in other words, you'll lose torque....

the bigger your tire the higher your top speed will be. but bigger and wider tires means your not able to peel out as easily as small thin tires.

the first thing i'm gonna do when my beetle runs is get some stock tires and tear em apart!

I run 215/75r15 Remington all terrains in the front, and i have about 13-13.5 inches of clearance in the front and run (like everyone else) 31-10.5r15s in the rear. What kind of drivin r u doin? I would stick with a good all terrain rather than a MT. The tread wont wear as fast and youll have less road noise, if it matters. just my 2 cents...

Tire wear relly is not a problem I have had the same BFG M/T's on the back of my baja now for seven years. Still have well over a 1/2 of ruber on them. And the car was a daily driver. I'm looking to replace them do to tire rot and cracks starting to show up in them.

Yeah i had MTs on a Bronco I had and they were great, just heard that MTs had a tendency to wear faster but as always each expeience is different with things.
