alright, now that i have your full and complete attention... HELP!

ok here's the situation, this happened about 3 days ago, it has not affected the driveablity or stopping power of my bug, i just wanted to know if this is a minor issure or a BIG DEAL!

here's a picture of what has happened, my right rear wheel has exploded with oil i'm assuming from my drum or something, since i'm a VW noob i need a good honest opinoin here Smile

Looks like bearing grease. Maybe you got a leaking seal. They are real easy to replace. I would repack the bearing with grease.

don't drive on it. no oil=extra heat in the trans. no grease in the bearing = extra friction, both equal bad things happening. No wheel cylinder = open brake system = no brakes.

Park it and find the problem ASAP.

THAT LOOKS LIKE 80W TO ME,, BET YOUR BRAKES ARE SOAKED,, MAYBE NOT BUT I,D CHECK, REPLACE AXLE SEAL,,IF IT WAS A BRAKE THING YOU WOULD KNOW RIGHT AWAY,,,,,,NO BRAKES..TAKE WHEEL AND HUB OFF,,YOU WILL SEE THEN,,,

unfortunately it IS my daily driver, and i don't get a day off untill friday, then i got to get it ready for the copperstate show!

rear axle seal gone. if you're broke and the brake shoes are good, you can spray them with a couple of cans of brake cleaner, sand the glaze off with whatever sandpaper you have handy and reuse 'em. But you gotta buy a new seal and kit. Be sure and follow the book on torqueing that drum and the cotter key...don't forget that. I got a story about that happening.....
