My current dash has two home-made sheet-metal dash inserts, and the right side only has one instrument hole. The left side has two switch holes gouged out of it, and the placement of those makes it impossible to add another instrument hole without it looking like an abortion. Sooooo, I need to either acquire some aluminum sheeting and make two new panels (or at least the left side), or come up with a better, pre-made solution.

I'm not a wizard fabricator- everything I make looks a lot worse than I wish it did. I see Chirco has a nice aluminum dash with 5 instrument holes- anyone ever use one of these? I like the price- anyone local carry something similar so I could get one TODAY????

Chirco aluminum dash- $40

Thanks for the help gents (and I use that term loosely, in case anyone may be offended..) Shocked

PS- if the best option is to MAKE a new one, anyone know who carries small sheets of aluminum here in Mesa that would work to make something?

Thanks!

You might try American Metals on Extension and Broadway. Or let me know what size and I can check with a friend that has a fab shop to see if he has anything.

I have some aluminum but its white. Will that work for you? I also have a template you can use to mark the dash piece out with.

I called Karl's today- they have the two-piece setup in stock, with one hole in the right side and a pair of holes on the left. They're only like $10 each, so I'll probably go get a pair in the morning. Hoping to hook up and run my motor this weekend, and install the gauges.

I just cut mine out completely as it was riddled with holes when I got it. I cut out some sheet metal and welded it in the big gaping hole. A little bit of Mar Glass at the edges, and VOILA!!!

New dash.

It wasn't all that hard, either.

I know they make fiberglass dashes too, made specifically to fit VW's. I think they just overlay the existing dash. I've never seen one installed.
