I'm gonna go tear the motor down today. I'm gonna bet the No.1 cylinder will have broken or bad rings and my crankshaft bearings are gonna be crap.

I'll try to take pics.

My buddy said he has a block that I can have. It's already machined for a 1776. He started a motor build but his bug got stolen and he never went back to it. SCORE!!!!! Cool

Wow, that was pretty simple. I didn't see anything out of the ordinary except a layer of dirt covering each piston. About an 1/8 of an inch. I thought it was burned oil but when I scraped it it turned reddish. Like the dirt i found in the carb.

The cylinders weren't worn too badly, but the no.1 had some strange swirl marks on the inside near the top. None of the others had it.

The gap in the top ring was almost a 1/4 inch inside the cylinder. I removed it from the piston and slid it inside the cyl. I thought it would be tighter than that.

And lastly, how do I get the wrist pin out of the piston? I removed the clips but they won't slide out.

I'm going to get to the innards tomorrow.....

The wrist pins should just push out. They are a slip fit. I would bet that the dirt you mentioned has something to do with the difficulty you are having.

I would try some penetrating oil and a little force.

PB Blaster is your friend, get to know him. Do you plan on replacing the P & J's guess so if you are going to use the 1775 case.

They slide back and forth but only to a point. I didn't know if they were slotted or keyed.

Yeh, I'm gonna replace the pistons and jugs. I'm going to regring the crank and replace the cam.

I was surprised at how well the whole thing came apart......
I didn't mark the pushrods when thay came out. Hopefully that isn't too important. I'm gonna guess the cam comes with lifters and the push rods can't be too much money. I hope......

Put a socket on an extension and tap it with a hammer...It'll come out.
