the only gauge that works in my 69 is the speed-o-meter, nothing else, and i cant get my turn signals to work either. are there relays for them or fuses? ughhhh.

Check the fuses, check the connections. Do you have a multi-meter, if not do you have a way of buying or borrowing one?

Don't just look at the fuze's, take them out, look on the contact area for corrosion or possibly a bent ear, something that does not make good contact, then start at that wire inspect it, look for breaks or slices, trace it to where it goes to, once there check that connection, maybe swipe the fingernail file from the wife or girlfriend and go over the contact points. Take your time, maybe time to look at a rewire, that is doable and gives you a chance to upgrade the antique wiring.

Turn the turn signal switch on. Get a cheap HF or HomeDepot volt meter. Put positive probe on one side of fuse, put black probe to ground. Should have pulsing voltage. Put the positive on the other side of the fuse, should be pulsing too. If not you have a bad fuse or connection.

OR take out the fuse and ohm it out with the meter.

Or, you can make a long test cable, connect one end to the battery, then one end to the output side of the fuse, see if you have a steady light on.

Or it may be the relay, or a connection at the relay. Or it could be the switch assembly or a connection there.

just a tip.....run a extra ground wire from each light mounting stud to a clean bare metal spot on the body. Use crimped eyelets at the least. This of course especially if you're running them on fiberglass fenders. I'd do it before diving any deeper. Old VW wiring does strange things searching for a ground. Just a word of advice.
