I am building a 73 and as of right now with the crappy weather I have not been able to work on it much. So with all the down time I have been thinking of putting on some 5x5 trailing arms on it. Can anyone tell me the exact parts that I would need to install the 5x5s!!

Or would the 5x5's be overkill? The car will be street driven also.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!!

I know for sure that you need a wider torsion housing and I think you have to move the trans and engine back a couple of inches.

engine 2.3 Ford and Rancho Pro 3 rib tranny in stock location, late model Vanagon axles, type 2 cv's, stub axles with 944 Porsche disc brakes. .

Ok, I'm confused... I bought a set of 5x5's for my car and they didn't fit. When I bolted them on at the pivot they were 2" too wide. I would need a spacer between the arm and springplate Confused .

I know I had a time getting the urathane bushings in. Once the arms were pinned in the piviot box everything fell right into place. Are your arms from BCR also? Do you have pictures of the setup with those arms?

I don't know who made the arms. When I couldn't get them to fit, I sold them. My only solutions were a wider torsion or move the pivot pionts to inside of the frame horns Shocked . Oh well.....

Is your car a natural IRS? or was it converted? From the sounds it may have been converted and whomever welded the Pivot brackets, didnt put them in the right location?

They should be into the framehorns about an inch or so, are yours not?

My guess is they were made for a wider torsion housing. There are people who run extension boxes on their torsion housing, or use a custom housing to fit the "big boy" arms. Us peasants just stick with the 3x3's. Laughing

My car is originally an irs... the arms must have been made for a wider torsion housing... Oh well... I ended up going with what the rest of the peasants use...3x3's Wink .
