Trying to change out my torsion setup. Didn't someone on here have a spring plate "tool"? I've been messing around all afternoon trying to get them unsprung. Problem is there's enough torsion on them that a jack lifts the whole car (no motor). I was even hanging off of a bar I had sticking out about 3' off the back end- still wasn't enough weight to unload one so I could pry it out. I'm trying to install my 28mm SAW short torsion setup. I THINK the stuff that's in it is stock- they're long anyway.

If someone in the EV has one, I'd love to pick it up tomorrow if I could borrow it...

Anyone? Laughing

I would not even try this without the "tool", it's just too dangerous and not worth the time. I got mine from Chirco's

www.chircoestore.com/c...ts_id=2362

and it's been well worth the money. Maybe Karl's has one..? The tool mounts on top of a bolt in the rear body mount hole and hooks under the outer spring plate (on my IRS).

I'm currently in the middle of my project or I'd let you use it (also living on the West side.) There is an unbelievable amount of force required to even use the tool, so be careful! Use a medium size screwdriver wedged under the spring plate and the lowest hole behind it in the rear susp submember. Once the screwdriver is in, lower the plate with the tool slowly and work the plate down and out with a BFH, small pry bar, etc.

Tony, if you can't get a tool I use a floor jack under the spring plate put a chain under the floor jack and up thru the upper shock bolt hole. The chain will keep the body from lifting and the floor jack will collapse the spring. Jack the spring up put a big screw driver behind the plate and slowly release the jack and hit the spring plate with a rubber hammer and it should come off. If it does not, try a couple of more times.

PM sent to DONT- I no longer can locate his number. If anyone wants to PM me his cell, or let him know I sent him a PM, I'd appreciate it. Would really like to see if he's around today to lend me that tool... Cool
