Unhookit from the carburator and pull the piece threw. Then move the driver seat back so that you can get to the gasss peddle. The cable just hook into the peddle and pull the cable out. get the new cable. The new cable will have one end with what looks like a treched out z and the other end has just a stait metal cap. The strat end is feed threw theplace where you took it out from the gas peddle. it will go in for a while then stop. This is because it has run into the tupe that goes threw the fan housing. You will have to reach behind the shroud and finish feeding the cable threw. Before reataching it to the carberator thred the end on to the gas peddle. This process should only take you about five minutes top.

The cable runs along the inside of the center tube. The cable exits just forward of where your ankle is when your foot is on the gas pedal. There is a chance the cable broke at the pedal and it would be tough to find if you didn;t know what your were looking for. Look for a short tube, this is where the cable runs. If you still have a stock pedal pull it back a bit and you will see a small roller set-up underneath. There is a small hole in the arm where the "Z" bend on the cable would feed in. If you don't see the cable at this point then the "Z" bend has broken off and is laying on the floor someplace. (If you have a roller pedal it's the same, there will be a hole in the arm)

yep. got it. thanks alot man. part of the "z" snapped off but theres enough "z" left on there i might be able to bend it back to a hook, that way i dont have to replace the whole thing.

thanks alot guys.

if the head broke once, then it will depart from your throttle peddle again very soon.

a new cable runs a few bucks. go buy one and keep it in your vw as a spare..kind of like a ride a long Very Happy

is your vw a baja or stock ride?

if you order by tomorow, friday, maybe a week at most...

it isnt bulky, maybe priotiy USPS mail for faster delivery .

ok shpuz, since you have abaja, the trottle cable change is decently easy.

in the day light (make sure the car is outside), look at the motor.

on the left side behind the carb should be a small hole with or without a tube stickin out.

this should have the trottle cable inside and then exiting to the carb linkage.

now you will have to crawl under the edge of the baja adjacent to the drivers side rear wheel.

you should see the throttle cable coming from the back firewall by the rear seat and going into the doghouse .

the other cable is the clutch cable . it has a wing nut (ok should have) on the end where it attaches to the trans.

to replace the throttle cable...

remove it from the pedal up front. pull the cable firmly but not too hard in the direction of the front fire wall.

keep doing this till it has completely retracted from the guide tube. the cable will need to be coiled or routed out the drivers door for comfort reasons Very Happy

the new cable is then fed back into the the guide tube from the same point where you removed the old cable.

push the cable almost 100% in.
now, you can either guide it through the dog house at the motor, or hook it to the peddle.

both have to be done, some do it their way Wink

once you are fed through the dog house and to the carb, you need to take the slack out. make sure the cable is now hooked to the peddle.

feed the cable into the linkage on the carb where the old one was connected.

give it a tug to take up the slack.

hold fast with 1 hand (whith slight tension) and snug down the cable clamp (bolt, etc) on the linkage. once the cable is taught and the bolt is 1 finger snug, tighten it more with a wrench and 2 hands.

your new cable should now be in place an ready for use.

if you have any questions ask away.

got camera?

take some pics of the areas I mentioned and post em. we can then guide you through those as a reference. Very Happy

Isn't that heay duty cable the same as a clutch cable? Have you actually seen a gas pedal snap one of those? That seems bullit poof to me.

They are a little smaller than a clutch cable, just about the same size as the barrel on the end that connects to the carb. I have never seen a HD cable snap.
