i am new to this and am wanting to build a long travel class 5 baja bug. i was wondering what is the best front end set up and rear suspension set ups to get the most travel. i wanted to get the 6 or the 10 in wider front end but i dont know all the parts i need to get and i would like to know what the best possible set up would be and i am going to convert it to link pin.

If you go with a VW style front beam you will get at best a medium travel car, which will probably work fine even if you want to race it. If you want a true long travel car, you better plan on using an a-arm front suspension. As far as the rear goes, you can get about 18 inches of travel with 5x5 arms and 14" coil overs. You will need 930 or 934 CVs though.

well the baja rule book says it has to stay with the same purpose style of the old one so i think im going with a vw front axle beam. but i want to go with the 6,8, or 10 wider beam with taller shock towers but i dont know what all i need to buy to accomidate with the longer beams

Well the best thing to do is get your rear suspension together (with tires & wheels) so you can get a width. Then mock up the front with a stock width beam, and all of your other stuff and make the beam wide enough to have the front the same or up to 1 inch wider that the rear track width.

It will be fabricated to get the longest travel. Bugzylla makes them custom. The Warrior beams are for torsions, if you want to go longer travel than c/o is your answer.
Your setup for racing: custom beam to match the rear, 4" longer trailing arms with the lower arm w/shock mount on top, coilover carrier shocks, bypass shocks, through rods and the upper shock mounts built into the cage, king kong combo spindles, rack and pinion with power steering.

Classic class 5 front suspension.

Or if you need cheaper, several other ways.

$15K-$20K is a realistic budget for a 5 car. You can save a few buck on shock if you go with the FOAs. One of the guys there used to work for fox, same basic quality without all of the advertizing money involved so much better price. You can get 4 14" coil overs with springs & hardware for $1677 plus shipping.
