If you make up a projects forum please move this to that spot. I will use this to keep all my questions I have on my rail in one area, lot easier to find.

My rail is street legal here in Ar,my first question for you Az guys is what are the inspection and emission standards going to be for it? Not to be able to drive it on the streets would be a bummer to say the least.

go to servicearizona.com for all the details. as a rail you can get a specific registration I think. coconino county (northern arizona) has no smog requirements, though down south they do.

Looked on the site Confused so started calling I have my 4th number to call, I know it will not be due for Emissions testing till 2010 but I would like to find out if it is the same standards for the rail as a Ford or Chebby or if it goes by the year of the engine. Nobody knows yet so will keep calling. Anybody has a short cut I am open. Very Happy

I know so far it will require a lvl 1 (Vin verification) testing, then at that time they will determine if a level 2 (safety) inspection is also required and then it might need a lvl 3, no idea what that is, to scared to ask Wink

leather, if your feeling lucky, go the the DMV and see if you can get a plate. depending on who you talk to down there, you can walk out with a street legal plate. it does happen, they make you sign a waver stating that you are in compliance to be street legal...

I am hoping because it is already titled and licensed that it will be a breeze. Wavier, get me a pen, I will sign the stinking wavier. Arkansas is pretty easy with there registrations and no emissions. We will see.

The level 2 inspection isn't for safety. What they do during any of these inspections is look for the Vin Numbers. You start at level one. They look on the dash and the door. If ether of these are unreadable or missing then you are sent to a level 2 inspection. Here they look for hidden vin numbers on the car. A level 3 inspection is typically for restored salvage titles and or any car that has miss matched numbers. They do this to make sure the car or parts of the car don't come up stolen.

I found this out because I brought a car from Oregon that I knew wasn't going to pass AZ safety standards. I was very worried about passing inspections until they told me all they are doing is looking for the vin numbers. If everything is cool with the vin numbers then you can get your title.

Only if it's an AZ titled car. If it's coming from out of state they require an inspection.

If you're bringing it in from out-of-state, it's just a VIN verification inspection (no safety inspection).

If it's titled as 1966 or earlier, there's no emissions inspection in Phoenix (Maricopa County). Anything '67 or newer will have emissions required in Phoenix (and Tucson).

The safety stuff is pretty basic- think it might be similar to what's required to make a quad street legal (you can do that too here in AZ!)- mirror(s), brake light, horn. On a buggy I believe a windshield is also required. They really never even inspect it-you just have to have all that stuff if a cop sees you out and about in it.

Leather, what year is it registered as in AR? As far as smog is concerned, there is also a "collector car" program here where you do not have to deal w/smog. Just have to have collector car insurance, can't drive in rush hours etc. Works for muscle cars also.

The rail is registered as home made and as a 2005 so I do have time and as the wife said will probably have another buggy to worry about before 2010 rolls around, I like the way she thinks. Should not be to bad, I am sure worth the hassle.
