my '68 Baja came with the emissions results when i bought it, it passed everything but idle, anyone know why it would be failing at idle? I'm thinking valves or a carb adjustment is in order.

*to be honest, i don't think it's right that i should need to get emissions testing on a vehicle that is 40 years old*

If the COs are high then its running too rich or had a cylinder mis-firing. Post up the numbers and we will help you out if we can.

I agree that a 40 year old car going through emissions is crap, but in AZ if its 67 or newer it has to unless you have collecter car insurance.

First thing is take a compression test and make sure you have 4 good cylinders. IF the compression is OK then throw in a new set of plugs (bosch supers W8AC, DO NOT BUY BOSCH PLATINUMS!!!!) then rebuild the carb. What carb do you have anyway? from the sound of it I bet its a 2 bbl weber progressive. If thats the case you may need another carb. If the car is drivable you can swing it by and I can give it a quick look.

it dang near passed last time, i got a PASS PASS PASS FAIL. i failed the Hydrocarbons by 369, so JUST BARELY!

i took it in yesterday with half a tank of supreme and a "GURANTEED TO PASS EMMISSIONS" -or your money back- additive, it failed BAD! i couldn't figure it out, so that eve when i was changing my oil and gaskets, i notices i was missing a spark plug cable tip, (Well there's yer problem!)
i was only fireing on 3 cylinders, so fixed that, got new oil in it, it's running like a champ! i'm going to lean out my carb just a bit, and i'm sure i'll pass today.

umm, anyone know how many times a week you can go to emmissions before they start getting mad? lol they know my bug very well now... Rolling Eyes

to answer your question about the Carb BugZyla, it's a Single barrel BOCAR (made in MEXICO!), i also have 2 other carbs that came with the car, one is a 2 barrel, and i haven't looked at the other one, just glanced at it and said, "Yep, Thats a carb"

i've leaned it out a full turn, it has niether helped nor hurt it seems. i'm purchasing new spark plugs and spark plug cables tomarrow, because i'm getting a misfire somewhere they told me @ emissions.

well, so far i've taken this thing to emissons 3 times now, and they have all been failures,

HERES TO GETTING MY BAJA ON THE ROAD... and off... probably more off than on BUT ANYWAY, lets get this done Razz
