Hello my name is Ryan im 20 years old and live in Southern California, and i am addicted... and its the second best addiction i have ever had. number one being nooP... and for those of you wanting to know what nooP means send me a pm and ill be happy to tell you. i dont know what this forums policy is on foul language.

so back to my second addiction, last weekend i went with my girlfriend (Amanda / addiction 1) to her little brothers boyscout weekend in Lucerne. Her Grandfather brought his Buggy and gave it to me for the day to use to run around in.

now i am looking on craigslist for a buggy that is Street legal and basically already made, i dont have tools or a shop to build my own, but i plan on making it my own by adding the thins that i want and ditching the things i dont. Amandas Grandpa, and his friend go on buggy excursions a lot and i would like to get one so i can take Amanda and join them. I like the look of her grandfathers, and an kinda planing mine modeled after his. with my own twist to it.

My Questions are!!!

Is there a Used Buggy Buyers Guide. What to stay away from, make sure it has, where to look for structural damage. i know im not buying a $100,000 classic muscle car, and that i am buying a car that was hacked apart, welded together with the intention of being slammed around pretty hard.

also, is there a book i can get, or a site that i can go to that has all the terms that are used (IRS, 3x3's).

Thanks for any help and im happy to be in the addiction.
Twisted Evil

1st, Welcome!

2nd, if you look around this site enough and ask the questions you'll know all you need to in no time. There is a WEALTH of info here and some GREAT people!

Depending who you ask you'll get plenty of answers of what to look for in a Baja. It really depends on what you want to do with it and how hard you'll beat on it. The things that come to mind off the top of my head to look for is rust! with no shop or tools you don't wanna mess around with a rusted pan! unless you wanna pay someone to replace panels. Start checking with www.craigslist.org to start your search. there are some listed on ebay but in my opinion most people they ask too much. And of course the car sold here Smile

Rust...Do not want it! every thing else is bolt on. See the yellow Book in the top right of the page? Buy it and at the same time buy the book How to Keep you VW alive, it's a huge Blue Book.

And welcome to the fun.

Welcome and congrats on both of your addictions. Like My AZBaja said, get the books and read them, then read them again. By the looks of her grandpa's car, you should be able to get by with a mild baja and hang with them.

First thing is to plan on a budget, then start looking; then you will double your budget.

Look through the suspension threads and things have been discussed there about suspension mods.

Hey, I am a new guy too. But I do know dirt is always more fun that the street!

Buy whatever suits you. I bought a real mess of a car, I am having fun tearing it apart.

Read this build all the way through. When I started this was what I wanted, then things got carried away.... Wink
