All questions are about the '66 Baja I just bought

#1
How do you remove the fuel level sending unit from the top of the gas tank?

#2
Why doesn't the driver side door have an interior door handle, not even a place where one used to be?

Thanks,
Chris

#1 is it a stock tank? there is a lock ring that goes around where the sender is mounted to the tank. take a screw driver and a hammer and tap it LIGHTLY and it should turn. then pull it up and out.
#2 some one put in a interior pannel and was to lazy to poke the holes through and srew the handle back on.....

Or i could be wrong. havent delt with stock stuff in a little while.
Best of luck

#2 Q... I agree with StinkBug, some one probably was too lazy (or thought it looked cool) and didn't cut out the hole.

#1 If you cant see 5 screws on the top of the sending unit, it is the old cable style sender. In that case just stick a small screw driver in the hole where the cable comes out of and gently pry it up. This will reveal where the cable hooks up and the 5 screws that hold it in the tank.

Thanks guys.

It looks like the door was never made to be opened from the inside. Very odd.

I have another question:

Are there aftermarket pedals that are spaced wider apart? Or has anyone modified the stock pedals further apart? I seem to have big feet.

EVERY BODY has big feet in a bug. you will soon learn how to use this to your advantage if youve never owned a bug before. Youll learn how to push the clutch in and aply the brake while reving the engine at the same time (To keep it from stalling) . A unique thing iv never experienced in any other vehicles. Hope those big feet Are attached to strong legs cause at one time or another you WILL push that bug. Thats where the love comes in...
Happy buggin!!!

Can you get some picts of the door, with and without the door panel. I seems very odd that you would not have any type of handle. The area behind the door panel isn't totally obvious where the handle goes if someone has removed the small bar that connects the latch to the handle. Picts would help to point out where it should go.

If its a 66 then is will have a flat bar instead of the round rod. If you are missing that piece, let me know I may have it.

Cool Cool A million dollars, at least not yet Cool Cool

Sample, is the latch still there that keep the door closed? I know I have the rod and actuator that the door handle goes on, but I dont think I have any drivers side latches.
