a buddy of mine was telling me that if i have a problem and have to go to a shop to, " not tell them right off the bat that my bug is a baja."
he said some of the guys that have resto's/street cars get really pissed when they find out you have a baja bug. and won't help you very much.

should i really be cautious with this?
and why would someone find a justifiable reason to get pissed, especially if i bought the car already chopped up? hell, it might have been done by the original owner...

good times, Smile

Like Daryll said if you come to him or I (BajaWarrior Custom VW) between the two of us we should be able to take care of ALL your needs. My family is split we have a '64 Baja and a '69 Vert. I have had friends of mine that were only into the street bugs and that was all that existed until they went for a ride in my baja they quickly changed their mind. Most VW guys now a days are more open minded to the baja situation and yes it did suck when I chopped up my perfectly straight bug to make the baja.

It would ONLY piss them off if youve got an Oval Or Splitty Rear window. Thats about the only thing that pisses me off. But i dont work at a shop, and even if it was a torn back Oval id still give all the help i could offer...

I don't get it either. You can chop it, channel it, smooth it, change to suicide doors, totally customize it, but for God's sake don't Baja it. The magazines would rather show some customized bug where all the work was done by professionals but will never show a Baja that some dude put his heart and soul into. Just don't make sense to me. I know, I know, it's all about paying props to the advertizers.

I can't think of a quality shop in the valley that would pull that. None of the places I'd go would do it for sure, or I'd not go there either (and I'm a street guy). They might give you a little crap in a good natured fashion, AFTER they got to know you as a customer, but they'd do that whether you were driving a stocker, a baja, a custom, or an Edsel.

Yes, there a re some people who drive street cars that just don't get it and will criticize anything that isn't what they're driving, but don't judge "street" guys by one or some small number of rabid purist jackasses. Smile

The way I look at it (and most of the people I know and like hanging with look at it too), is that you're keeping another dub on the road (orr off it), and that's a good thing. Most of the bajas out there now were wrecked and this is a second life for them, and that's pretty damn important IMO.
