what's with the 3x3 rear irs setup? is it for more travel on the rear end or better control when you are really hitting it hard?

Longer wheel base should also make for a less buckboard ride on washboard roads and such.

Yes, and yes. And the travel is not just with coil overs. They put the centerline of the wheel 3 inches further from the pivot point and 3 inches wider track.

Basic math shows the longer an object is from the pivot the further the travel at the same degrees of movement. Sooo 12-14 inches of travel where 8-9 was before. Being wider allows for less angle on the cv joints at the same point.

There are some drawbacks to 3x3's... You need a cage to mount the shocks to, you usually use 930 cv joints and mathing stub axles, flanges and axles, if you stay with torsions, you need to go thicker to deal with the increased leverage the arm/wheel creates. Figure 900-1200 unless you go with race stuff, then 1500 and up.

but the real reason to run them is they look cool and you can say "yeah I have 3 x 3's and 930 cv's...just kidding.

Hope that helps. Maybe Daryll will post some pictures of what he installed on my car for reference.
