i wanna start by asking azbaja how his plane jane 2.3 performs.

alright, what are the strongpoints of a 2.3 as opposed to a beetle engine?
what is the best type of 2.3 to get? carb, F.I., do they make blowers?
are there different engine case types?
are there certain ford cars that had better performing 2.3's than others?

i know everyone has an opinion, i 'd like to here them all

The short answer is that anything goes. There are as many hop-ups for the OHC 2.3 ford engine as there are for the chevy 350. Most of them are fuel injected and come in any ford that has a four cylinder with rear wheel drive. None of the 2.3's that came in front wheel drive cars are what you want.

The 79-82 mustangs had a turbo with a carb. The 83-88 turbocoupe and merkur xr4ti were fuel injected 2.3's. The later ones had intercoolers. The later rangers were a stronger motor without turbos (stronger than other non-turbo engines). There are other engines in other cars and any one of them will work.

The advantage is they put out more power and are more durable for the money than most aircooled motors but they are heavy and are a challenge in get installed.

dont forget to look at the checy ecotech 2.5's. or go for a kicker and slam a LS1 or a cadi northstar.

if i got my hands on a wrecked car with a 2.3 but it had a computer, would i have to install that computer in my bug to run that engine?

Torque, Reliability and Dependable, No oil leaks. I have had this same engine in my car for 12 years now. Have been driving it almost every day. It was my daily driver. Now with the baby the Focus has become the new daily drive plus the Focus has A/C. Once you tune the 2.3 it stays that way, Oil is easy to change. (No adjusting Valves, No duel carbs/or leaky intakes etc. If you ever had a basic old V8 car, it's pretty much the same thing just with 4 pistons, not 8.

The 2.3 has a real Heater, Granted it's not the cold here, but it is a plus. I can run a GM 120AMP alt ont he car.

but wheres the fun of drivin a VW if it dont leak, or goes longer than a week with out needin a valve adjustment? Very Happy

i believe another post on this site said a 2.3 weighs twice to two thirds of a beetle engine, but not positive check it out
