i already know of a few places that just about everybody else knows about to go off roading. i like fast, packed sand, so it's not too hard to find.
so, i was just wondering,

what type of driving do you guys like to do and where and around phx (within 100 miles) do you prefer to go? good times

I second the Rolls. Its out by sagauro lake. The first entrance is at the back of the butcher jones road, and the secont entrance is a little north of the butcher jones road at the overflow parking area.

You can also run bulldog canyon, but you will need a permit. The entrance to that is off of ellsworth road just north of mcdowell right after mile marker 22.

Another really neat place is Queen Valley. I've only ridden my quads there so far, but am looking forward to taking my baja there. Take the 60 east, go past Gold Canyon, and stay on the 60 at Florence Junction. About 1-2 miles past FLorence Junction, there's a railroad crossing, and a left turn lane RIGHT at the tracks. Turn left there (that's Queen Valley road- paved). Go about 2 miles, and look for the first right turn with a road sign (dirt road- Hewitt Station Road). That's where the fun begins! You need to be street legal on Hewitt Station road, but if you follow it about 3 miles, there's a left turn that says "Superstition trailhead" and "Rogers Trough". Take that left and you're there! From there, there's MILES and MILES of dirt roads. Old mining sites and the like. That Spstn Trailhead/Rogers Trough road actually goes about 12 miles to the top of the Superstitions- very fun trip. No 4x4 necessary. Anyhow, that's probably one of my favorite places around. You can camp out there also. Coyotes and bright stars- NICE. I've even seen deer out there more than once.

When we started out with the quads/ATCs, we had a 22' Minnie Winnie and flatbed we'd take out there camping. Our first toyhauler was 23', and we could get it back there too. It was sweeeeet since it's only 45 minutes from home. Now that our toyhauler has "grown" to 30', unfortunately, we can no longer camp there.

BTW- it's only about 20 miles from Apache Junction to there.

Yeah, personally I do. There's so many more "sideroads" to go off and explore at Queen Valley, plus, you don't have near as many "Ironman Stewart" wannabe's that come bombing around corners in your face. The roads are a little rockier- many are two-track trails to old mines and such. But the main Roger's Trough road that goes to the top of the Sups is neat. There's a parking area at the top where people hike to Reevis Ranch.

Four Peaks is toooo close to Sycamore Creek- same crowd.

Too bad my car is nowhere near being ready- we could head out there together!
